jennie's pov.
my footsteps echoed as i walked through the quiet hallway. the familiar scent of medicine invaded my nostrils and makes me a bit light-headed.
for the past few months, this is my everyday routine. visiting the hospital everyday after the dismissal of class.
i am in college, graduating three months from now. i'll go to med school and strive to become a doctor.
i go here everyday to visit my girlfriend, lisa. she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at the beginning of the school year. and here she is, still fighting.
as i reached the floor of her hospital room, i saw her mother talking to the doctor.
my heart ached as i saw lisa's mother sobbing hard.
i quickly stood by her side and rubbed her back. "what happened?" i asked politely. i guided her to seat at the chair outside lisa's room.
she can't speak properly as sobs were the only sound that comes out her mouth.
i may have an idea of what was going on, but i didn't want to entertain that thought. i need answers, but i need to wait for lisa's mom to calm down.
i stood up after i gave her water and peaked inside lisa's room.
i smiled softly as i saw my sweet angel. she's sleeping soundly wearing the beanie that i gave her. she lost her hair because of the treatment but still looks beautiful, she never fails to make my heart beat madly.
"jennie..." lisa's mother sniffed. her eyes were so red from crying that i had to look away because my tears are welling up.
am i ready to hear it?
"she will leave us soon." she broke down again.
i guess not.
i hung my head and closed my eyes tightly. this is just a dream right?
i held my chest and went inside her room, trying to hold in my sobs to not wake her up.
i quietly sat beside her and held her thin and pale hands. i kissed it with so much love, hopefully enough to keep her alive.
"you will fight, angel. alright? we will still graduate together and reach our dreams side by side. do you hear me lisa?" i am heartbroken.
she didn't wake up even after i left because of the medication she took before i arrived.
when i got home, i wrote a letter to our dean and asked for permission for my absence. i decided to stay at the hospital and help lisa's mother to take care of her.
my tears started pouring again when i heard lisa's voice. "you are my strength, jen. with you here, how can i leave?"
she needs me. and i need her too. i need her to stay with me until we are old. i need her to stay strong and keep fighting. i have faith on my angel, and i will hold on even onto the littlest bit of hope.
after my last class, i went straight to the hospital carrying a plastic bag from the convenience store with lisa's favorite drink. chocolate milk.
i am wearing my biggest smile today because lisa is awake.
i reached her door and knocked twice before entering. lisa's mother kissed my cheek before leaving the room, giving us privacy.
"hey baby, you look good." i greeted her and went to kiss her cheeks.
i pouted when she just looked at me.
"why are you ignoring me huh?" i asked and acted cute, trying to lift up her mood.
