It was a Sunday morning. Everything was a mess. My mother was taking out things one by one from the travel bag and my father was also busy cleaning the dust from the windows.

We went out of town for two months. Now finally we are back home after spending the holidays.

Whenever you come back home after a long time, it feels like you have shifted here just a few days ago. You will find everything scattered here and there.

***************
I am Janet Milton. Daughter of Amanda and Stephen Milton. My mother is a nurse and my father is a neurosurgeon. I am a university student completing my masters from Paradise University. People call me weird sometimes, I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm not as social as others. Yes, I'm an introvert and I don't let too many rubbish people into my life, so I don't have many friends, but there are some people who are very close to me.

***************
It was eleven at night and I was standing in front of the mirror looking at myself. While admiring myself in the mirror, my eyes fell on the mark on my neck where there was a small triangular shaped mark which looks like a tattoo but it is not a tattoo. It is my birthmark. Whenever I touch this mark, fire starts running through my veins, I feel strong and sometimes even strange. I don't know why this happens. I asked my parents about this mark a million times but every time they gave the same answer "You are special.”

***************
I still remember the day when I was thirteen years old and was playing badminton with my best friend Alice. It was a hot sunny day and we were both soaked in sweat but still enjoying the game. While playing, I suddenly started feeling dizzy and I fell on the ground and darkness engulfed my eyes. I was neither able to see nor hear anything.

After a while I found myself in the medical room of my school and Alice was sitting next to me. She was very nervous and told me that my birthmark was glowing like fire when I was unconscious. When I asked her if anyone else saw it, she told me that no one except her saw it because it glowed only for a few seconds and then it became normal.

I held her hand and said "Alice, don't tell anyone about this. Not even my parents. Please, just don't."

"Don't worry Janet, you are my best friend and I promise I will take this secret to my grave if you say so." she said and hugged her tightly.

***************
The clock was ticking. It was midnight. I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not even realize when an hour had passed. I finally lay down on my bed and started wondering why this mark was glowing that day. What could be the reason behind it? Well one thing I am sure of is that it is not just a birthmark. So what is it? Is this the reason why I am different?
