Sitting in the library, thinking about my history assignment, I heard a low voice with a gentle pat on my shoulder.

"Hey, Jany! What's up?"

"Hey, Alice! Umm...nothing, I was just thinking about the assignment." I said.

"Have you decided the topic?" Alice asked.

"Not yet. Well what's your topic?" I asked.

"I guess I should do some research on witches and witchcraft... and all that stuffs," Alice said.

"Oh come on Alice you must get out of your fantasies now." I said.

"What do you mean by saying fantasies? He didn't commit suicide, Janet" She said with teary eyes.

"I'm sorry Ali. I did not mean that. Alice, Jeremy is no more with us and he will never come back, so what's the point of thinking about all this now?" I said, placing my hand on her shoulder.

"But I want to know the reason behind his death" she said and I nodded.

Alice lost her brother Jeremy a year ago. Everyone believed that her brother had committed suicide. But Alice always refused to believe this. She believed that Jeremy had been murdered. She believes that there is some supernatural reason behind his death.

I never denied her believes because Jeremy had no reason to commit suicide.

Jeremy was one of my good friend even more than a friend. He was a tall, good looking young guy with dark brown eyes and black hair. We studied in the same school and later enrolled in the same university together, the Paradise University. He was intelligent and good at his studies. He was also a good basketball player.

I still remember we always used to do our assignments together. I swear without his help I couldn't complete a single assignment.

I still remember that day......

Alice left with her parents to attend her cousin's wedding. Jeremy was alone in the house. My phone rang and I picked up.

"Hello, Ali?" I said.

"Hello Janet, my brother is not picking up the phone. I called him thrice but there isn't any response. But..." she said and paused.

"But what Ali, is he ok?" I asked her.

"I don't know. I mean..uh..." She was fumbling.

"Janet, a few minutes ago I got a message from an unknown number. It was written dedos hetu imfantra."

She was getting apprehensive about something, but I could not get her. I smiled and said "Ali someone must be messing with you. Right! Don't worry he will be fine."

"Ugh...I guess so." She replied and then cut the line.

Within a couple of minutes she called again and cried out loud "Ja... Janet..he... Jer... Jeremy...."

"Ali what's wrong? Why are you crying?" I asked getting worried.

"Jer... Jeremy is..." She was crying so much that she couldn't even speak.

"Alice please calm down a little dear and tell me what happened? What's wrong with Jeremy? Please tell me Alice" I asked nervously.

"Jeremy is de... dead." She said and started crying.

I freaked out and jumped off from my bed. "wha.... what? What are you saying? Jeremy... No... Where are you? I am coming."

I ran into the car and reached there.

The house was surrounded by the police. I ran to the room where I saw Jeremy's body lying on the floor. Seeing him lifeless, I could not hold back my tears.

I saw that he had a very sharp and deep wound on his neck and a bloodied dagger in his right hand.

I wiped my tears and moved towards Alice to calm her down. "I am so sorry Alice," I said.

"Mrs Bennett called my dad and told about this." She said in between her sobs.

"Hello, Janet. I have heard a lot about you from Alice but I never expected that we would meet this way." Said Mrs Bennett.

"It's OK Mrs. Bennett." That's all I could say because for Alice and her parents the situation was terrifying and pathetic.

"The party was over. We were on our way home when she called us." Alice said.

"As a good neighbour, it's my duty to check on Jeremy as he was alone. I mean...uhh.. actually I heard Jeremy's scream. It was so loud that I could not stop myself to approach his house." Mrs Bennett said in an oscillating voice.

"What had happened to my son? Why did he scream?" Mrs Branson (Alice's mom) asked, tears constantly rolling down her cheeks.

"Honestly, I don't know. When I came, Jeremy was lying on the floor. His throat was slit and the room was drained with blood. I was scared and horrified. I picked up my cell phone and called the police, and then I called you." Mrs Bennett said.

--------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey! Jany back to earth. Are you lost somewhere?" Alice patted on my shoulder almost interrupting my thoughts and finally, I came back to the earth..I mean back to present.

"I was thinking about his death." I muttered almost inaudible.

"What? Did you say something?" She asked.

"Uh... nothing, I think we should go home now. It's too late." I said.

"Do you wanna ride?" she asked.

"Yeah! Sure. My car is at servicing...so if you don't mind." I said.

"Of course not dear. C'mon, let's go." She said.

After coming back home, I took the dinner and hopped to my bed.

Thousands of questions were running through my mind... Did he really commit suicide? Or someone murdered him? But why? Who could have done this? And what was that chanting after all?
