Tears filled my eyes and started falling on my cheeks. I felt as if someone had ripped my heart out of my chest.

"Aren't I your daughter?" I asked.

"You are not our biological daughter, but you are our daughter. You have been living with us since the day you were born. The day you learned to speak, the first word that came out of your little lips was 'Mum' and your father and I were so happy," said my mother.

"Janet, we may not have given birth to you but you are more precious to us than anything or anyone in our lives. We love you very much, my child," said my father.

"I... all this... I don't understand what is happening to me. Mom, Dad, I have no doubt or complaint about your love and affection but this..." I said sobbing.

"But all these things are hurting you. I know Janet and that is why we have kept the whole truth hidden from you till now. Not only this, we want to protect you, so we thought it better to hide this truth, but how long can the truth remain hidden? Look, today it has come in front of you," said my father.

I was stunned for some time and stood silent. It seemed as if I had no strength left to hear anything further, but still I gathered courage and said in a broken voice, "I want to know everything. Everything."

My father sighed and said, "Danielle." Your mother, she gave birth to you."

"Danielle?" I asked in surprise and bewilderment as I had never heard that name before.

"She was my sister." He said.

"Do you have a sister? You never told me about her. You always told me that Grandma had only two children, you and Uncle." I said.

"Yes, I never told anyone about her except Amanda. Danielle Milton was my sister and she was your biological mother and a witch." Dad said.

"What? A witch! And... what do you mean 'was'?" I asked him in fear.

"She is dead, Janet. She died when you were born. When she was dying, she asked me to save you. 'Save my daughter', were her final words before dying. She wanted to save you from the curse and we all want the same." He said and I could not hold back my tears after hearing that the person who gave birth to me is no longer in this world. I remained silent for a while and then, wiping my tears, I asked, "Which curse are you talking about repeatedly? What is that?"

"Jany, I am so sorry dear. I don't know anything more than this. She never told us. All I know is that you are a witch and if your real identity is hidden forever, you will be safe." Dad said regretfully.

"And what about my father? Is he alive?" I asked in a quivering voice.

"Yes, he is. He probably knows everything, but he always denied saying anything and we never forced him because he was completely broken after losing his beloved wife. When he handed you over to us, he said that from now on you are our responsibility and the only thing everyone should know is that his child died along with his wife. He considers himself the worst father in the world for doing this to you." Dad said.

"W-who is my re-real father?" I stuttered. I didn't have the strength to bear any kind of shock anymore.

"Shane Campbell. His name is Shane Campbell." He said.

Shane Campbell! The name sounded familiar, then I remembered he was our new history professor.

The next morning I woke up, had breakfast and got ready for college. I was eager to meet my father, my real father but I was also worried about what if something more heartbreaking happens. I was just thinking on the way to my college how to meet him, what to say, what to do. I was getting restless and wondering if he even knew that I am his daughter, or I am just an ordinary student to him like the others. I reached college and ran to my class. As usual Professor Campbell, my father, came to the class. He continued to give his lecture, but I swear I could not pay attention to a single word of his because I was just waiting for the class to end so that I could talk to him. After the class was over I followed him. He went to his cabin and closed the door. My heart was hammering in my chest, I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

"Come in." A voice came from the other side of the door.

I stepped in and said, "good afternoon sir, can I take your five minutes?"

As soon as I entered the cabin he was shocked and said, "I am very busy right now. You may come some other time." He said this avoiding any eye contact with me.

"But sir, I need to talk about something very important." I said.

"I said that I am busy now." He said sternly and I asked, "why father?"

As soon as he heard the word father from my mouth, he got shocked and looked at me in bewilderment. He quickly took the files and ran towards the door to leave the room, but I didn't let him. I raised my right hand and summoned my magical power and then boom. The door slammed shut. I closed the door with my supernatural powers.

"I won't harm you." I said.

This was the first time I consciously used my supernatural powers.
