(Janet's POV)
November, 20 2025
The next morning the alarm rang, as usual, it's too irritating to get up early in the morning and get ready for college.
"Good morning mom and dad!" I said with a raspy voice holding my toothbrush in my hand.
"Good morning dear!" My mother said while pouring some coffee into her mug. I had my breakfast and gets ready for college and then I quickly descended the stairs to avoid being
late.

I managed to reach college on time, entered the classroom and occupied the seat next to Alice. A tall middle-aged man stepped into the classroom and said, "Good morning students, my face is unfamiliar to you all, isn't it?" He wrote Shane Campbell on the green board and turned to us and said, "I'm Shane Campbell, your new history professor."
"So students, Professor Dean Morgan has given you an assignment that I will be checking, and I expect you to complete the assignment before the deadline," Prof. Campbell announced.
One of our classmates, Matt, interrupted him and asked, "Excuse me, sir, is Professor Morgan not going to teach us anymore?"
"No, because he has left the city and I will be taking your history classes from today onwards," Prof. Campbell said.
Alice jumped into the conversation and asked, "Why did he leave?"
Prof. Campbell said he did not know the reason, so no one asked any further questions about Prof. Dean Morgan.

After the class was over, I joined my friends in the cafeteria to have snacks. While eating, one of our friends Kelly said, "This new professor is quite strange. Isn't he?"
"Yes, that man is really strange. Did you notice something, Jany?" Alice asked and I enquired, "what?"
"He was constantly staring at you during class," Alice said.
"Yeah, maybe because I wasn't paying attention to his lectures during class," I said.
"No Janet, he was staring at you in a really different way." Alice said while munching on a burger.
"Alice you're scaring me now," I said and before I could say anything further Robbie jumped into our conversation and said, "Guys, are you all ready to hangout today?"
My parents told me that they were going to attend the opening of my uncle's new restaurant. So I agreed. Hanging out today is better than staying home alone and as for Alice and Kelly, they both had already agreed.
"I'm ready, but where should we go?" I asked.
"At my place," He said.
"Your place?" I asked curiously.
"Yeah, I have something on my mind," He said and smirked.
"And what's in your mind?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"Look, I can not tell you guys everything right now, except that it has to do with Jeremy," He said.
"What do mean Robbie? What are you upto?" Alice asked, getting apprehensive.
"Relax, I told you, I can not tell everything at this moment. Please, come to my house after the classes are over," Robbie said and left the cafeteria.

It was six in the evening and I looked out of my bedroom window and saw Alice and Kelly waiting for me outside the house. I immediately got ready and came out of the house and we all got in the car and within a few minutes we reached Robbie's house. Kelly rang the bell. The door opened and Robbie greeted us. We sat on the couch, he went inside his study room and invited us in too. We went in and saw him sitting on the floor and a spirit board was placed in front of him. I also noticed Jeremy's picture lying on the left corner of the spirit board.
"Wait! Are you going to summon Jeremy's spirit?" Kelly asked.
"Yes, that's the only way we can find out the cause of his death," he said with a glint of hope in his eyes.
"I think he's right," Alice added.
I protested and said "No, you can't do anything like that. Robbie, it's too dangerous."
"Jeremy isn't dangerous," he said irritated.
"What if we accidentally summon the wrong or bad spirit?" I questioned angrily.
Believe me, I really want to know the reason behind his death but I was scared because I heard that sometimes souls get stuck in our world. I was wondering what would happen if Jeremy's soul got stuck here forever. If that happens, his soul might have to suffer for ages and I don't want to imprison his soul. I don't want him to suffer even after his death.
I continued to oppose them and then we got into an argument. I started getting angry and my anger grew so much that I could not control myself. I started staring at the spirit board lying between Robbie and Alice and suddenly the spirit board caught fire. Everyone got scared and panicked. But I kept staring at the burning board. I could not understand why I was behaving so strangely.
I felt someone shaking me and I heard a voice, "Jany...Janet... Janet." It was Alice. I suddenly came to my senses and the fire was gone and so was my anger. The spirit board was badly burnt and all we could see was the ashes of the spirit board.
Kelly panicked and said "That's enough. We're leaving."
"Do we have a choice? I'm sorry guys, I bothered you all." Robbie said sadly looking at the ashes of his spirit board on the floor. No one could understand how this happened. No one lit a lighter. There was no candle or any flammable object. What happened all of a sudden?
