“Cassandra! A witch!” I whispered timidly. The words ‘Cassandra is a witch’ stuck in my mind and I wondered if Mrs Bennett’s full name was Cassandra Bennett but I had heard Emily Bennett from Alice. My mind was digging a well of confusion when suddenly I remembered Mrs Bennett’s face and for a while my soul trembled because it was the same face that I had seen in my horrible dream a while ago. The same woman who brutally slit Jeremy’s throat with a dagger. Same eyes, same hair, same face as Mrs Bennett. The only difference was that Mrs Bennett was not wearing an ancient gown like her. “I saw her. Yes, I saw her. It was Mrs Bennett?! Oh my God!” I whispered, terrified.

“Jeremy, what really happened that day? Please tell me everything.” I asked him impatiently. He sighed and started speaking, “It was November, 15…

(Jeremy's POV)
—Flashback—
November, 15 2024

At nine in the night I was sitting on my bed writing a letter when suddenly the doorbell rang. I got up and went downstairs to open the door.

“Who is it?” I asked and a voice came from outside, “Jeremy, can you do me a favour?” I opened the door and saw Mrs. Bennett standing outside.

I said, “Hello Mrs. Bennet, please come in.”

“No thanks really, I need help if you don't mind.” she said.

“Of course I don't mind. What happened?” I asked her.

“My car's door is locked and the lock is not working. Can you check it out?” Mrs. Bennet asked me politely.

“Yes of course,” I said and walked out of the house. As soon as I walked a little further, someone hit me very hard on the back of the head. I screamed in pain and fell on the ground and then within a few moments my vision was dark.

After some time, when I somehow opened my eyes, I felt a stinging pain in my head and I felt something sticky flowing out of my head. Blood. I found myself sitting on a chair and my hands were tied with rope behind the chair. For a moment I could not understand what was happening. I saw a woman standing in front of me and that woman was none other than Mrs. Bennett. I was stunned and could not speak anything for a moment. Finally, I opened my mouth and gathered courage and stuttered, “Mrs. Bennett? Yo-you are…”

“Hello dear, I'm glad you woke up.” she said.

“Wha-What's happening? What do you wa-want?” I stuttered.

“I want your soul.” she said in a diabolical tone.

“What? Wha-What do you mean? Yo-you're not a psycho, right? Untie me. Mrs. Ben…” before I could finish my words she shouted at me, “Stop calling me Mrs. Bennett. I'm not Elsa Bennett.”

“I'm Cassandra,” she said.

I was shocked and tried hard to understand the situation but I couldn't understand what's going on.

She said with a wicked smile, “You already know me Jeremy. Don’t you? Don’t you know your ancestors Jeremy? They knew me very well.” I was scared and shocked. I didn’t know what was happening but when she mentioned the word ‘ancestors’, suddenly one word came to my mind and that was the journal, the journal which my grandmother had given me. I had read it and it mentioned the name of a witch. I shuddered at the thought because the witch whose name was mentioned in Grandma’s journal was Cassandra. And now that same Cassandra is standing in front of me. “Impossible! Cassandra! Witch. How come here?!” I whispered timidly.

“Good. I don't have to waste any time introducing myself.” she said. I was silent for a moment because I couldn't believe that this woman has been our neighbor for five years and I never knew that she is a witch! Our neighbor is a witch!

“Impossible. How-How are you…here...from centuries ago...here! You were dead!!” I whispered eerily. The whole room echoed with her evil laughter and then she said, “Yes, I was dead. But, you don't know the whole truth.”

“Which truth?” I asked.

“That's not important. Now shut up and let me do my work.” she said.

“What are you going to do? I won't let you do anything. You won't do anything.” I shouted.

“Who's going to stop me? You? Huh! Poor boy, don't you know who I am? Don't you know what I'm capable of? Centuries ago, if your ancestors hadn't interfered with my work, you'd be alive today. They started it and I'll finish it.” she said and put her right hand in her jacket pocket and pulled out a dagger.

“Cassandra stop. Please don't. You won't do anything like that. Please.” I tried to stop her.

“Don't waste my time Jeremy, I have to finish this before your parents come.” she said.

I gritted my teeth and screamed, “Bloody monster” I tried to free my wrists from the ropes, threw my legs around, screamed for help and did everything to save myself, but all in vain.

She slowly came to me and started chanting,

“Dedos...hetu...imfantra...seques...hetu...imfantra…”

She raised the dagger in the air and started slitting the air. As the dagger was slitting the air, my throat was also being torn apart and I started screaming in pain. Blood started flowing from the cut part of my throat. Tears started coming out of my eyes and I felt unbearable pain all over my body and then my white clothes turned red with blood. There was not a drop of mercy in her eyes and she kept slitting my throat until I took my last breath. When she finished me off, she uttered a word which caused the ropes to open and my body fell on the floor. She placed the dagger in my right palm and said, "I am done." When I opened my eyes after a long time, I saw a lifeless body lying on the floor and that body was none other than my own body. I am dead.
