Chapter 9: That Damn Weasel

[09.16.2015 - The Next Day. Ruins of what used to be the YG Compound 12A.]

The cape cloaking the shadowy figure billowed outwards gracefully, considering the weight pressing against the character's back. Clad all in black, the figure continued their trek through the uneven terrain, leather boots crunching old electronics that had been blown apart from the blast. The figure kicked at the ground, sending parts flying across the barren landscape. Pausing, M reached up and adjusted the customary black mask that always sheltered their disfigured face. The thick pollution of smoke and particulate from the explosion was permeating the thick mask, making it difficult to breathe.

M didn't care. M needed revenge.

Reaching in and pulling out a small tattered piece of paper from their pocket, M flipped it around seven times in their hand while scanning the area for any possible enemies. After squinting through the haze and determining it was safe enough to continue, M studied the smudged charcoal drawing with a contemplative countenance. M looked up, scouring the landscape trying to best locate what they needed, making their way clandestinely towards what they believed was the 'main hatch'. M brought out their compass, complete with a pedometer before walking 850 meters south and 220 meters west.

Upon arrival at the spot, a wicked grin tainted M's face. They reached back into their bag, removing a collapsible spade before dropping the precious cargo from their back.

"Seunghyun will pay for this," M grunted maliciously. "No one seduces me and goes lusting after another. No one."

M sunk the spade into the unyielding earth with new vigor, a hatred bubbling inside that fueled his revenge. M didn't need to dig deep, they realized, as this backpack needed to be found.

Taking a step back from the modest hole, M threw the spade down in satisfaction, before snatching the backpack and dropping it in, loosely covering it with dirt.

M stood, sneering at their handiwork. "Fuck you," M spat, before turning on their heel and making their way back to their base.

"This is stupid!" Gary moaned. "It's going to take forever to sift through all this...shit,", holding up a broken alarm clock for emphasis, "to find something we don't even know exists! Who was your source anyways, HaHa? Was it that damn weasel.."

"No, for your information, it wasn't him, and don't you go insulting Kim Min Gyo!" HaHa interrupted. "Even though he was wrong the last time..."

"Last four times," Ji Hyo corrected.

HaHa flushed. "Hey! Butt out, Ji Hyo!"

Ji Hyo snickered as she continued to search for this so called 'wealth of information' while she listened to Gary rant about how 'not to talk to his girl like that', before quietly interrupting them. "I can't believe Jae Suk actually believes you and whoever this source is, though. Must have been good intel, because there's no way he'd send all three of us here if he didn't think it was worth it". Ji Hyo looked up at the other two men, an emotion flickering across her face that was too quick for them to register.

"I guess... seems like a waste to have all three of us come here. HaHa should have been the only one, seeing that it was 'such an important source'," Gary sarcastically imitated Jae Suk using air quotes, causing HaHa's shoulders to drop.

"Seriously, Gary...."

The three continued to work silently after that, trying to preserve their oxygen supplies. The fires that had been rampaging across the former compound had quelled slightly, but it was still too stuffy to breathe for too long without aid. The trio didn't bother with their item detectors; there was too much debris for them to work efficiently anyways. Rummaging through all the wreckage by eyesight alone however, was a hassle.
