Chapter 17: Once Was Enough
Holy fucking shit.
Youngbae collapsed back into his chair and pushed it back from the table slightly, creating a nasty scraping noise that reverberated throughout the room. He hadn't realized he had leapt to his feet at some point. With a sharp inhale, he dragged his hands over his face, pulling down the skin while he tried to absorb what just transpired.
There's no way this could be true. No way. Youngbae internally debated; on one hand, Seungri had been a convincing liar, as shown during his interrogations. But on the other --
His hands slid from his face and settled limply in his lap as he looked at Jiyong. Jiyong. His oldest and dearest friend. Jiyong's eyes were flitting desperately around the room, his mouth opening and shutting without forming any words. Youngbae closed his eyes briefly, mentally rifling through a couple of scenarios on how to deal with this situation when Jiyong fiercely slammed his fist on the table.
"You fucking ASSHOLE!"
Jiyong moved with incredible speed, darting around the obstacle before anyone in the room could register what was happening. A venomous smile crossed Seungri's face as he braced himself for the oncoming impact, his feet shifting into a slightly wider stance and hands lifting into a defensive posture.
Time seemed to slow slightly for Youngbae then; he watched as Jiyong's fist recoiled and aimed for Seungri's jaw. But Seungri was more agile, easily deflecting the blow and retaliating with his own. Jiyong had no guard up - his face was wide open as Seungri connected with a swift uppercut to his nose. Falling back at the impact, blood gushed from Jiyong's now-broken proboscis. But Seungri wasn't finished. He strode violently toward the leader, hovering over him and grabbing his collar roughly. He aimed another blow to his face but Jiyong lurched, kicking precisely up between the younger man's legs and landing a deft kick to the crotch.
A ragged hiss escaped the folded Seungri as Jiyong wobbled up into a standing position. The deep scarlet blood splashed his face, creating a striking contrast against his pale skin. Jiyong's breath was laboured as he lurched forward again, taking Seungri down in an American-styled football tackle, pushing him up against the nearest unfinished wall before landing a quick succession of left jabs to Seungri's ribs.
A stream of dust and small rocks cascaded around the brawlers, adding to the mayhem of the scene. Before Seungri could manage to catch his breath, Jiyong pulled back, performing a spectacular head-butt. Seungri's eyes rolled back and a spatter of Jiyong's blood was transferred to his face. His frame slumped slightly and Jiyong seized the opportunity to overpower his opponent. Youngbae witnessed helplessly as Jiyong bent and drew his arm back, connecting his right elbow sharply with Seungri's jawline.
In his peripheral, Youngbae could see a hard line drawn on TOP's face as TOP held back a squirming Daesung, who clearly wanted to break up the fight. Without anyone subduing him, Youngbae leapt to go separate the pair, but was met with the hard bone of Jiyong's elbow as Jiyong went for another blow. Stars flashed across Youngbae's vision when bone met bone against his temple, sending him stumbling backwards as he tried to refocus.
Seungri seemed to be recovering slightly as his mouth pooled with blood, but when his arms twitched to try and gain the upper hand again, Jiyong nimbly pinned them to his sides. However, with his strength focusing on keeping Seungri fastened against the wall, he had no free limbs to continue attacking. Jiyong pulled Seungri into a tight grasp and then shoved him roughly against the wall. Seungri's head whipped back, connecting sharply with the jagged wall behind them. An audible crack was heard throughout the room; Youngbae winced and his stomach flipped at the noise as he struggled to regain his balance.
