Chapter 8: Pair of Glittering Eyes
[09.15.2015 - The same day. Compound F]
"Ooooh, Seungri! My baby... look at you! It's so good to see you! Come over here, I stayed up late making you your favorite rice cakes," Seungri's mother exclaimed, dragging her son into the kitchen of his parents' small apartment in the ultra-secure Compound F. The apartment was decorated exactly like his childhood home and he immediately relaxed when he entered the room. He needed to make a point to try and visit his family more often.
"Thanks, Mom... Where's Dad?"
"He and your sister will be here soon. They went to the exercise room. Now, tell me what's been going on... I've been so worried. The other parents keep telling me about a security breach and a forced evacuation... I have no clue what's going on and you never tell me anything!" She finished her words with a scolding flick to her son's forehead.
"Ow! It wasn't a big deal, I didn't want to scare you. Our location was compromised so we moved to Compound 10," replied Seungri. "But Mom, now I'm worried. You're going out on the rescue run tonight and you've barely had time to rest since the last run."
Seungri's mom smiled at her son. "Don't worry about me, I will be fine. I'm tough... Here, eat this. You've gotten skinny."
Seungri's mom continued to stare at him questioningly as he ate the rice cakes. Like he was a puzzle she was trying to solve.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Seungri asked when he couldn't stand it anymore.
"Something weird is going on with you. You keep smiling. You don't usually smile these days. It's not that I'm not happy about it, I'm just wondering what's changed...Don't give me that look, I know my son," she declared firmly.
"Have you met someone...? Maybe one of those nice girls in--"
"MOM! No, how would I have time for that? No. Just... things are going well with the members now, I guess..." Seungri could feel his cheeks heat up when he thought about G-Dragon and abruptly returned him to the back of his mind. His mom noticed and smirked all-knowingly at her son.
"Have you spoken to GD..." What? She knows? Seungri began to panic. "...About taking on more responsibilities yet? Last week you told me that you were going to speak to him about how he hasn't been using you to your full potential." Oh. That.
"No, not yet. This week was too hectic and it's become... complicated. I think something has to happen soon, though, 'cause the other members have been having problems in their roles too," Seungri admitted, thinking of TOP's stress after the M mission and the mess with Taeyang.
"Maybe you should be the leader," Seungri's mom teased. "Your compound would become a party every night."
"Mom! No it wouldn't. We'd get so much more done if I was the leader..." Seungri responded, his ego bruised at his mom's joking tone. Seungri thought of all the things he still wanted to accomplish-- reunification of Seoul, retribution for the RMA's nonsensical brutalities, the infrastructure rebuilding process...
"That's a lot to put on your plate, honey," Seungri's mom added and Seungri realized he must have been speaking out loud.
"I know I could accomplish more, Mom," Seungri reaffirmed. He realized that he needed to continue plodding forth with his plan to take leadership. Surely there was a way that he could take control without hurting GD... Seungri laughed quietly when he imagined himself and GD working as co-leaders, sitting side by side in identical ridiculous thrones. No, that wouldn't happen. But maybe Seungri could become the tactical leader or something. They could become a council like the RMA, although the idea of emulating that group made him feel sick.
