Chapter 14: Smidgen of Dirt
[09.19.2015 - Present Day. Compound 10.]
"Sir! Something's happened!" yelled Mino, running into the conference room flanked by two other guards. GD looked away from Youngbae and TOP at the intrusion. Youngbae had been outlining plans for TOP's next mission and the guards had been under strict orders not to let anyone interrupt the confidential meeting unless it was an emergency.
"What is it?" asked GD impatiently, fear shooting into his heart. He hadn't seen Seungri since the night before. The man had texted saying he was busy fixing some loose ends over at the wreckage of 12A, and GD could only imagine what could have happened to him.
"RMA made a move. Grey boxes have been spotted in four locations near the Han River. I guess a new virus has been released. We've disarmed the boxes, and we have all our spare people searching for the others, but it's impossible to tell how contaminated the river has become," recounted Mino, his eyes irritatingly on Youngbae the entire time.
"Where's Seungri?" asked GD at the same time as Youngbae asked, "Did you bring in a sample to test the virus? It could be a new strain."
"It's being tested already. From preliminary tests, it looks as though the virus is virtually the same as the first strain," noted Mino to Youngbae, ignoring GD's question, "And that's why I'm not quarantined".
"Let's hope so. We could all be safe then," commented Youngbae with a relieved smile, oblivious to GD's rising ire.
"Mino. Where. Is. Seungri."
"Sorry, sir," Mino blushed a satisfyingly deep shade of scarlet at GD's irritation, "He is out commanding the search parties."
"I didn't authorize that..." growled GD as his pulse beat furiously in his chest. He'd lost too many people to these biological attacks already and if something happened to Seungri...Closing his eyes, he counted to five as he struggled to rein in his emotions.
"He always does this shit. You would have ordered him to do it anyways. Relax, you don't have the luxury of getting mad at Seungri right now," advised TOP, noting GD's distress. He didn't know it was fear, not anger, that had GD white-knuckling his chair.
"Youngbae, call Dae and tell him to update me as soon as possible on the details of this virus. We need to know if we need to contact...our source...for a new vaccine." TOP's face went stark white at the implication of M but it couldn't be helped. M was our reluctant contact on the outside with access to the vaccinations.
"Sorry, Seunghyun," GD blushed at the use of the name, thinking of the last time he'd used it for its other name-holder, "but if it's a new virus..."
"I know," responded TOP quietly, looking at the floor. M was the only contact they had with access to the materials needed to make enough vaccines for all the YG compounds.
"I'll go put more men on the search. The less virus released into the water supply, the better," announced Youngbae, springing up into action after he got off the phone with Daesung.
"Already done. I just sent your boys out, like, two minutes ago," replied Seungri appearing in the doorway. Heat and relief bloomed in GD at his appearance. When Seungri moved his attention to GD, his eyes held the leader's intimately. His heated gaze held more emotion than GD could have ever imagined and hope blossomed inside him. So, Seungri wasn't freaking out about the other night, then.
After a moment of silence, Seungri strode up to the front of the conference hall, joining the other BIGBANG members. GD couldn't help but examine Seungri's walk... he felt himself let out a soft sigh to see that Seungri wasn't....well...walking funny. He clenched his jaw in annoyance of his own thoughts, given the current situation. Although it had been almost twenty-four hours... GD gave a slight shake of his head to clear his thoughts from that night.
