six. | conversation

It's been two weeks, and it's a Thursday.

I was sitting at my desk, reading another romance novel. I was so intrigued in the book, I didn't realize my phone was ringing until I felt my phone vibrating on the table. I turned to look at who was calling.

Oh! Rantaro!

I quickly slid the circle to answer the call, putting my phone near my ear. "Hello?"

"Shuichi! I just came to check up on you, you looked sad at school today."

My eyes widened a bit, but I just nervously laughed. "Haha..what are you talking about? I'm fine!" I said, then biting the inside of my cheek.

"I can tell you're lying, Shuichi."

I tense up, trying to speak but.. no words came out.

"Shuichi.."

"I- Okay.. you.. got me.." I sighed in defeat, bringing my knees to my chest.

I could hear Rantaro sigh from the other side of the phone.

"You know you can tell me how you feel, right? I'm also guessing it's those two-"

"Haha! Um! No! How about we uhh.. talk about something else?" I said, really trying to change the topic.

Silence came from the other side for a moment.

"..Sure."

I felt relieved, slumping my shoulders.

"Okay.. um.. do you like reading?" I asked.

Oh my god.. of course he doesn't like reading! Omg you're so stu-

"Actually, sometimes. If the book is interesting to me, I might read it."

"O-Oh.. I see.."

"How about you? Do you like reading?"

"Well.. erm.. yea.. I'm.. kind of the nerd of the school.." I said, lightly chuckling.

"Being a nerd isn't bad."

"..y-you think so..?"

"Mmmhm. You're just really smart if you're a nerd. Others just pick on you because of it. I don't have anything against nerds, I think they're chill people." Rantaro said, his sisters yelling in the background.

"Ah, sorry. Sisters bickering over who gets to be Barbie today." He said, laughing a bit.

I smile a little. "Oh, it's fine. Oh! What's it like living with siblings?" I asked.

"Well, you see. They're very energetic. They are a handful, but they aren't bad." Rantaro commented, more bickering in the background.

"..how many siblings do you have..?"

"12."

"6 sisters and 6 brothers?"

"All sisters."

"Oh.. okay."

I remembered replying to Rantaro's latest post about him having 12 sisters, honestly, I thought they were Rantaro's whole family and not just all his sisters.. I.. guess I was wrong.

"Hey Shuichi, you ever tried reading a book called 'Unwind'?"

"..No.."

"Seriously, you should check it out! It's really good, there's like, 4 other books as well!" Rantaro said, practically beaming with joy.

I smile a little. "Alright alright, I'll consider it." I said, finishing my homework.

I could sense Rantaro was smiling from the other side of the phone.

"And, the funny thing is, he lost! I have no clue if that was intentional or accidental. And, he was pretty weird." Rantaro said.

I laugh a bit. "I have a feeling I know who you're talking about."

"Hm? Okay, then. Name?"

"Nagito Komaeda?"

"..."

"..."

"Hel-"

"How'd you know?"

"I'm friends with Makoto Naegi, he knows about him since he's friends with..Hajime Hinata? I think that's his name.."

"Ah..hm. Well, I mean, you are a detective."

I winced, detective.

I laughed a bit. "Haha.. I really don't think I'm a detective.."

"What?! You solved a case even the police couldn't even figure out! You're literally a detective!"

"..Really? I don't really think I am.."

"Shuichi. Listen to me. I bet no one at school could even solve a case. You're special, Shuichi."

I feel my face heat up a bit, but then it went away. "..I'm special?"

"Yes, Shuichi. You are."

"..But how am I special?"

"Oh.. um.. sure. What is it?"
