"I knew it!" Rantaro barks in laughter as he skates over to me.
"I- Uh- You know what, fine, yes I don't know how to skate." I admitted while Rantaro helps me up.
Rantaro laughs, backing away and then almost slipping, now it was my turn to laugh.
"HAH! You almost fell!" I said, laughing and pointing at him, my laughter turning into small giggles.
He balanced himself, his cheeks turning a light pink, "You didn't see anything, alright? Also, says the one who can't even skate," he says. "Well, you slipped, so I guess we're even," I say.
He nods, chuckling. "Here, I'll show you how to skate then," he says, taking my hand.
I nodded, hoping he didn't see my pink cheeks when he held my hand.
———
"Now that you know how to skate, why not I test you?" He asks, skating around me.
"..What test are you going to give me then?" I ask.
"I bet you can't beat me in a race," he says confidently, stopping right in front of me, smirking.
I roll my eyes, looking at him, "Fine, you give me 5 dollars if I win,"
"You give me 10 dollars if I win,"
"15,"
"20," I say.
"Fine, fine. 20 it is," he says, skating over to the left side of the rink. I followed, slowly getting the hang of it.
"Ready?" He asks.
"Obviously," I reply, pretending to be annoyed, but really, I'm not.
Rantaro smiles, counting down from 3, and started right before he said 1.
"Hey! That's cheating!" I say, skating as fast as I could to catch up to him, but really, I was actually kind of scared of going too fast. Rantaro laughs, halfway there, while I'm catching up, "Looks like you'll have to give me 20 dollars when I win this!" He says, laughing, and taunting me.
I look at him, slowly catching up to him, making him stop his taunting to go a bit faster so I won't be able to catch up to him, but I was actually really close, but he didn't know.
"Actually, you give me 20 dollars," I say, passing Rantaro, smiling like an idiot and reaching the end. The look on his face was an absolute treasure.
"H- How- WHAT!" Rantaro exclaims after reaching the end. I giggle, shrugging, "20 dollars, please~," I say, my hands gesturing for him to give me 20 bucks.
Rantaro rolls his eyes, giving me a 20 dollar bill, "Here, take it, cheater." He says, huffing.
"I'm no cheater! I won fair and square!"
He laughs, "Ha, yea yea, whatever, cheater," he says.
I sigh in annoyance, crossing my arms pretending I'm mad.
He chuckles, checking his watch, "Oh, we should probably go now," He says. I nodded, following him.
———
"Hey, Shuichi, I had fun today," he said, catching up to me as we walked down the sidewalk.
"Me too," I replied, looking at the fairy lights that were hanging on two trees, probably a little hideout for some kids.
Rantaro takes my hand, leading me over to it.
"What's this?" I ask, looking around.
"We could meet here any time to talk," he says, smiling and laying down on the blanket.
I smile a bit, sitting on the blanket, "These fairy lights are actually really nice," I commented, looking at the lights.
He chuckles, "Glad you liked it, my sisters wanted to have it, but we never even actually put it up, so I decided I would use it." He said.
I nodded, then laying down as well.
We talked about a lot of things for a while, the fairy lights providing enough light for us, and eventually talking about constellations, which Rantaro seems to be really into.
I'm glad I met him,
And spend time with him.
