When it All Comes Down

Chapter 17

 Chapter 17 (Halloween) :D

I sat on the couch watching my mom and dad talk to each other in the kitchen, through the door that connected the living room and the kitchen. I couldn’t hear a thing they were saying since they decided that they should whisper. Since they weren’t yelling at each other I took that as a good sign. I guess they were trying to figure out this whole living arrangements and stuff. A part of me was hoping that mom would let him live here seeing as he used to live here before, but I don’t know if she would.  They’ve been in there for a while now, I wonder if they will be finished soon. All of sudden there was a knock on the door. 

Oh jeez I know today is Halloween, but who would be trick-or-treating at 1:00 in the afternoon? I swear kids these day and there need for candy, I thought as I got off the couch and walked over to the door. You know what I never really did understand, how parents tell their kids not to take candy from strangers yet there is a whole day dedicated to kids taking candy from strangers. But that’s not the worst part. The worst part is that they let their kids go to the strangers house and ask them for candy! I mean for all those pedophiles out there, your literally handing them your kids, you might as well put a big red bow on them and put a sign on them that reads ‘FRESH MEAT’.

I reached my hand out to the door knob, “who is it?” I asked. Looking through the peep hole I saw that it was Alice.

“Open the door, bitch! We got work to do!”  she yelled from the other side of the door. What the hell is she talking about? What type of work is she is there to do? I opened the door and she rushed in. 

“What are talking about you crazy lady?” I closed the door and followed her into the kitchen.

“Hi mom.” she said to my mom then she stopped to look at my dad. “Hi guy I don’t know yet, my name is Alice.” she spoke cheerfully as she held her hand out. My dad raised his hand and shook hers. 

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you Alice, I’m Elly’s dad.” he smiled at her. She turned to look at me with a shocked expression on her face. Her mouth was gaped open in the shape of an ‘O’. I wanted to laugh at how she looked but I decided against it. 

“We’ll be upstairs if you need anything.” I told my parents as I took Alice’s hand and led her up to my room. Once we were in my room, I closed the door behind us and sat on the bed.

“So why are you here? What business do we have?” I looked down at my nails and started to clean the dirt out of them. 

“Well as you know today is Halloween and me and you are going to go crazy today.” she squealed excitedly, clapping her hands together. 

“Aren’t we a little to old for this?” she gasped at my response.

“You are never to old to dress up and get free candy.” She retorted. “Now get your lazy ass up we got to go, Alex is waiting for us outside.”  

“Where are we going? So I know if I should get my lazy ass up or not.”
