Alex
My heart was beating so fast, I thought it would explode. I never thought those words would fall from my mouth, but when they did, they felt right. It felt right to say I love you to him. It's only been a couple months at the most, but I love him.
My footsteps almost echoed throughout the house because it was so quiet. That's strange since my mum should be home by now. Maybe she went out with a friend. "Mum?" I called out, looking in the living room before heading to the kitchen. The sight shocked me.
On the floor was my dad, with bleeding hands covering his face. In front of his feet was a crumbled up piece of paper. I couldn't read it, but something told me it was about mum. "Dad?" I asked quietly as I stepped further into the dim room. His head shot up quickly.
"What are you doing here? Go to your room, Alexandria." he snapped, getting off of his bum and leaning against the counter for support. His hands were tightened their grip on those white papers. I wanted to know what was possibly written on those. "Didn't you hear me? Get out!"
"What's wrong?" I asked as I stepped in even further. He was drunk, so I was a little frightened. "What are those papers for?"
He glared at me with his bloodshot eyes, but threw the papers in front of me. "Divorce papers." I looked at them, confused on why he was so angry. He wanted this divorce, so why was he crying over something he wanted?
"What's the problem? Didn't you want this?" I asked handing him the papers back.
"She signed them."
I looked down at the bottom, noticing the signature that happened to be my mum's. I didn't think she would sign them so soon, but he gave them to her. I guess she wanted this, too. "You wanted you two separated."
He glared at me once more, "I didn't think she would actually sign them! I don't need you here. Just go away and be like your mother. I don't need you here!" he yelled slamming the papers down on the counter. I flinched back since the noise was so loud.
"You cheated on her dad, she didn't want to be with you! Why would anybody want to be with a cheater?"
"Shut up! You're just like her. She wasn't the most faithful wife either. There are stories both of us never heard of, but we know they're there. Don't come in my house and talk to me like that when you don't even know the whole story!" he yelled louder.
"I don't need to know the whole story when I know that you cheated on her! You wanted a divorce, so now you have it. You can't expect mum to sit here and work things out when all you do is drink all night!" I yelled, challenging him. I was getting more and more angry by the way he was talking about my mum.
He didn't say anything, but he threw the papers down by his feet again and bent over the counter, crying. I never really saw my dad break down like this, but it was sad. Even if he called me names, he was still my dad, I loved him and he needed some comfort. But he wouldn't let me help him, "Get away. Leave just like your mum did."
"What?"
He looked up at me with teary eyes, "She moved to London."
And that's when my mind went blank.

My hands dug in the dresser, trying to find anything that belonged to my mum. Nothing. There was nothing. Next was the closet. I pushed all the suits away and looked for a simple blouse or a dress. Nothing. I couldn't even find one of her socks. It's almost as if she disappeared from the face of the Earth. She didn't leave anything behind, any evidence she was here was gone.
I went back over to the bed and noticed her pillow was gone. I sighed and held back my tears. My mum was the only thing I had left in this house. "Why?" I whispered out, going to sit down on her side of the bed. I noticed a simple necklace laying down on her side table and grabbed it. This was her favorite necklace. It was the one her own grandmother gave her before she passed away. How could she possibly have forgotten her necklace when everything else was packed away? I opened the locket and noticed the small picture inside. It was one of her and her grandmother together with huge smiles on their faces. She left this here on purpose. Was this an explanation for me? All I knew was I wanted to sleep, for a long time. Maybe this was all dream.
My mum was gone.
She moved to London.
