Woe
"She died today."
And I did not see her last gasp
Or hear her call my name
Like I knew she would
I could not hold her frail hand
Feel the shake of limbs
Reach in fear for mine
One last time where I stood
There was no love to claim
In her empty room
No words of grit or power
That urged her to stay with me
Days spun into rapid hours
After she went under
But her body gave up soon
Not able to hear my plea
"She died today."
And I hold the phone in woe
