Adventurous Girls
I remember the tales of sugar and spice
Girls that were everything pretty and nice
How ladies should act—coy and sweet
Playing with dolls and sipping their tea
But that in no way could ever be me
I saw it in shows and read it in stories,
Princes who loved the girl who was boring
Oh the monsters he would assuredly slay
When she cried for a hero so opted to wait
But surely that was up for debate
Dress her in lace or wrap her in pink
Have her sit still—there's no need to think
Prim and proper makes such a good girl
Pin up her hair and grace her with curls
But the thought of it just makes me hurl
So I wrestled with boys out on the yard
Fought with a few and still got the scars
Stayed playing ball way into the night
Slid on some bases, swung with my might
Oh, that was me alright
I'd climb up the trees to jump on the roof
Battle with swords as if villains afoot
Swing from a rope to land on the ground
Got a few stitches when I would fall down
And I did it all without heels or a gown
No need to be dainty, meek, or so shy
Even a girl can showcase a black eye
I know for a fact—I tell you it's true
Girls can be pretty and adventurous too
