Contrary to popular belief, Virgil didn't leave the dark sides willingly. There was no big fight, no leaving in a fit of rage only to regret it, none of that.

When Thomas had begun to realize he had a problem with Anxiety, Virgil was ripped from his family, without any warning. It was unexpected and therefore terrifying, so Virgil put his walls up. He acted rude and snarky towards the light sides, caused all sorts of problems for Thomas. Maybe if he did all that, they'd send him back, he thought.

The only problem was, they didn't. They couldn't. The only thing Virgil's attitude toward them did was cause more distance between him and the people he was stuck with for the rest of Thomas's life.

But a few episodes after giving up the snarky act (mostly), he'd begun to realize they wouldn't want him around no matter what. Thomas would be happier without him. Thomas would be happier if Virgil had stayed with the dark sides, or better, never even existed.

He knew that if a side ducked out, gave up their purpose, for long enough, a replacement of their trait would appear. The original would have no purpose anymore, and fade into nothing. That was what he was going for. He hadn't shown up for the video, knowing that no one would miss him.

But Patton-

No, he wouldn't miss you.

Virgil gave a sigh. No, he wouldn't. Patton was just pitying the anxious side, and would be glad when he was gone.

"Woah, I knew I shouldn't have taken that left turn at Albuquerque!"

THOMAS?!

Not gonna lie, this was fun to write. Take it easy guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, peace out!
