June 4th. Another year in the Mindscape had gone by for Roman.

He sighed. Usually there would be a huge celebration in the Imagination, with rainbow streamers, cake for all the Sides and the commoners, party games. But he hadn't been feeling like his extravagant self lately. Maybe I need to go out for some fresh air. That will help, he finally decided, and went to go get his shoes to walk in the forest for a bit.

"Heya, kiddo! Where're you going?" Patton walked up to him while he was putting his boots on.

Roman suppressed another sigh and turned to face the dad-like character. "Oh, I'm just going for a walk. I haven't been feeling like my princely self lately is all," he said, putting a (hopefully) convincing/charming look on his face.

"Well, make sure to be back soon! Wouldn't wanta miss your own birthday party, would you," Patton chirped, skipping off. Roman let out the sigh he'd been holding in and resumed his task of struggling to pull his boots on.

Walking in the woods was calming when one needed it, Roman believed, and he himself (english is a wonderful language) did indeed need it. The sunlight filtering through the trees creating a sparkling light show, the relaxing sound of the river running by your feet, the smell of the strawberry bushes wafting over on a windy day. The chirping birds flying right over your head, like little darts of color. Roman enjoyed all of those things about the forest, but most of all, he liked that it was a sort of escape from reality. A little haven, away from all the... drama.

Roman didn't need to put up his princely facade in the forest. He could be himself, without having to worry about the other sides being worried about him. He felt a wind passing by and subconsciously chuckled, "Hey, Gale." Ah, yes, Disney references.

Before he knew it, a few hours had passed and he had just been either walking along the stream or simply laying in the grass, enjoying the simplicity of things.

A cool breeze reminded Roman that he would have to get to the party sooner or later; it was almost dinner time; but for now he could just stay in the peaceful surroundings of the forest.

Happy birthday Roman! Don't worry, a lot of other people have had quarantine birthdays too, at least you have the other sides to celebrate with!

Take it easy guys gals and non-binary pals, see you next time :D
