TW: Being sick
Janus woke up with a groan, everything aching.
He had woken up with a splitting headache, stuffy nose, sore throat, and a temperature that was far higher than the normal range for a side. At least, that's what the thermometer read, but he didn't feel any warmer than average. In fact, he was almost sure the thing was malfunctioning; he was shivering uncontrollably, and no amount of blankets seemed to help.
Regardless, he had to, as Thomas might need his help today.
Ugh... the snake-like side was too foggy-minded from sleep to think clearly at first. Slowly but surely he got out of bed, ignoring the fact that his head felt like someone was hitting it in the head with a baseball bat repeatedly. Standing up may have been a mistake; when Janus stood up he felt as if he were about to pass out, it felt like his mind itself had started spinning out of control.
"Janus! Are you up yet?" Ah, Patton was coming to check on him, he belatedly noticed as the moral side opened the door. At first the bright light entering Janus's dark room was blinding, and made his headache worse. He could deal, though.
"Hey," mumbled the deceitful side with a hoarse voice, "what time 's it?"
"It's almost ten, kiddo!" Ten?! "I figured you might need to sleep in after last night, so I let you sleep for a while." Indeed, Janus stayed up last night with Thomas. His host had been playing poker with some friends, a game that relied on deceitful methods. Janus was with Thomas the whole time, helping and giving him tips. They'd stayed up until about two in the morning, which was when Joan and Talyn- the last people- left. Soon after, Thomas crashed on the couch. No doubt that was at least a large contributor to Janus's current condition.
He shook out of the memory and winced again at more of the bright light that had somehow entered the room. He looked over to see that Patton had opened the blinds.
Janus tried to say something along the lines of 'Yes, it seems I needed some extra sleep, I'll be put in a minute' but what came out was a string of deep, hacking coughs.
"Are you okay?!" asked Patton frantically, hesitating to try to help. What if he made it worse somehow?
Right as if on cue, Logan popped his head into Janus's room. "Is everyth- Janus?"
Janus's coughs eventually subsided, leaving his throat almost too raw to speak. "I'm fine," he forced out, consciously lying. No, he was not fine, but he could take care of himself. He always did, back with the dark sides, and now.
"You're obviously not," Logan retaliated, "lay back down. I will go inform the others of your condition and start making some soup. Patton, I trust you will take care of him?"
Patton nodded firmly, apparently he took this whole taking-care-of-a-sick-side thing very seriously.
Soon, Janus was set up in bed with a bowl of chicken noodle soup, water, and a disney movie playing in the background. Patton was at his side cuddling him. Janus, despite his worries that the other might get sick as well, was too tired to deny the moral side his cuddles.
Patton woke up the next day sneezing.
This was fun to write, though I doubt I'll do another sickfic again anytime soon.
Take it easy guys gals and nonbinary pals, peace out!
