When Tori said the stores and shops in town were good, I thought she meant that they were small, but had nice products. Instead, there were tons of shops in a huge shopping mall, as well as a few other minor shops. There were so many clothes, some uglier than others, but majority of them were cute. Me and Tori, both got a few pair of pastel coloured blouses and shirts, jackets and normal tshirts and hoodies to wear in our apartments.
There were a few jewellery stores, one from which I bought a rose gold, heart shaped locket necklace. It had small, intricate swirls on it, along with its delicate chain that hung around my neck. Tori got a similar one, although she had her heart shaped locket on a silver, bracelet chain, that was wrapped around her wrist.
In the middle of the mall, was a food court, with a little play area for children near the back of it and it was like being in food heaven. The burger and chips I got, were just unbelievably good, even the Pepsi was nice. We went to a cosy cafe near the shopping mall, called Danny's cafe, after we looked at a few more stores. Tori told me the owner, Danny, was a sweet middle-aged lady who loved her cafe and her customers (she wasn't married)
After getting a slice of brownie cheesecake and coffee for both of us, and taking a seat in one of the corners, we began talking.
"So, how long have you worked in the labs?" I asked whilst taking a sip out of my steaming hot coffee.
"Around one and a half years now, although I enjoy working there, not many people talk to me so it's nice having someone to talk to after a while." She had a sincere look in her eyes.
"Cool, so how did you get a job there, I mean Dr Turner said that people with exceptional grades and have family working there are mainly the ones employed?" I think I asked my question at the wrong time, because she was in the middle of chewing a big piece of her cheesecake slice, but she managed to gobble it down quickly before answering.
"Oh yeah, I have the 'exceptional grades' and family there."
She had family there, lucky her, at least she had someone from home that was still around in the labs. I wonder who it was...
"Really? Do have your father or mother or siblings? You can have siblings there right?"
She nodded slowly, her face morphing into an expression of sadness, although she tried to hide it with a slight smile. "My parents both worked there, but they died in a car crash, probably around ten years ago. It was kind of unexpected. Ever since then, my uncle has been looking after me, and he also works there..what about you?"
Her parents died in a car crash ten years ago, unexpectedly, just like my father did, and they both worked in the labs...coincidence? I don't think so, although it could be. I shook the thought the thought out of my head, and focuses on answering her question instead.
"I'm sorry for your loss, my dad worked there, but he died as well. I don't have any other family working there though, but Dr Turner thought I could still work there, because he said my dad was a great worker, and he thinks I will be too."
"I think you will be too, you seem like a good worker kind of person. I'm sorry about your dad." Again, she did have a sincere look in her eyes
"So, whose your uncle? Will I meet him, since he works in the labs?" I thought it would be nice to know who her legal guardian was, because I thought that he would be a nice, bubbly person like Tori.
"My uncle...he works as one of the more senior scientists, so you wouldn't see him often. He's not really a talkative person and takes his work very seriously,"
Okay, so maybe he wasn't as sweet as Tori then, "What's his name?" I thought I might of heard of him, seeing as he was a senior scientist.
"His names Henry."
