Chapter 19 - Flashback

A.N: This chapter is based on the day Lexi's dad died, cuz I thought it would be better if I cleared everything up about what happened when he died. By the way, Lexi is nine years old as this flashback is from ten years ago.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" I heard dad say, which made me giggle. But I had to be quiet because we were playing hide and seek, so I quickly put my hand on my mouth so that daddy wouldn't hear.

"Lexi...where are you," I knew he was getting closer to where I was hiding, which was under the bed in his room. I held my breath when I heard the door of the room open. Next thing I knew, my leg was pulled as dad pulled me out from under the bed.

"Oh look, I found you!" He said. I wasn't too happy that he found where I was hiding so easily so I blurted out, "You cheated!" Dad laughed, "I cheated? I cheated?" He started tickling my stomach, "Are you sure?" 

"Y- yeah! Aaah...stoooooop!" He kept tickling me, making me laugh, with tears coming out of my eyes. "Hmm, I don't think I heard you, what did you say?" I couldn't take it anymore, "n-no...NO...you didn't!" "Good." He said. I crossed my arms and frowned at him, annoyed that he tickled me to the point where I was crying because I was laughing so hard. "You can't be mad at me." He shrugged.

I narrowed my eyes at him, "Ok fine I'm sorry," I huffed and looked away, "...you want ice cream?" Immediately my mood changed, and a grin emerged on my face as I got up and began jumping up and down whilst nodding. "Let's go to the kitchen then." I raced out of the room towards the kitchen, but I heard dad mumble, "once a stubborn child, always a stubborn child."

After I got my ice cream, I sat down with dad once he got the deck of cards, so he could do a magic trick. I always loved it when dad did the tricks, because I found it so cool how could make cards appear and disappear. "Dad, can we phone mum, please?" I asked, as he shuffled them. 

Mom had gone to a different country for her work, and she was going to come back in two days. She went four days ago, and dad let me phone her everyday, but today I hadn't phoned her yet. 

He checked the watch he had on his wrist, "It's five o'clock right now, and your mom does her work at this time. Remember that she's busy, so you have to phone her in around an hour ok?" "Okay!" I replied. He kissed my forehead and continued to shuffle the cards. 

Dad did seven different tricks on me; he even made the card disappear and then appear in my jeans pocket. I clapped in amazement every time. "Would you like to phone mom now?" He asked afterwards, "Yep!" I eagerly placed my hands forward so he could give me his phone, after dialling her number. 

"Hey sweetie." I heard mom on the phone. "Hi mommy, you know dad did seven magic card tricks on me and it was so cool." She chuckled, "Really?" "Yes and I can't wait for you to come back home in two days!" "I know, and I'm going to be so happy when I see you. I might get a little surprise for you too." I gasped, "A surprise? Yesss!"I almost screamed with excitement, "I can't wait!" 

We talked for a bit longer, before she said she had to go because it was getting late, "Bye Lexi, love you." "Love you more!" I said. "Love you more than that." "Umm, love you more than you love me!" "That's impossible, but ok then, Bye." She said and ended the phone call. 

I handed the phone back to dad, who I now realised was putting his coat on and grabbing his car keys. "Dad, where are you going?" "I'm going out."he said simply. "Oh, can I come?" I walked towards the shoe shelf to get my boots. "No, not now, it's Tuesday remember? I have to go to do something at work. But Sammy is going to come and look after you when I'm gone." "Sammy?! When is she gonna come?"
