Daniel

Daniel stopped what he was doing.

What did she just say?

He was already pissed at his parents, he didn't need her jokes right now.

Daniel's face screwed up into a scowl and he lifted up his face to hers. He was frozen in place.

There were tears running down her face and red splotches forming her on her face under her brown skin.

He watched as she opened her mouth to say the words again, but she could get it out. Instead all he heard was gasping and choking noises.

Daniel could feel his eyebrows inching higher and higher towards his hairline.

She couldn't be serious?

"Y-you- ssshould-"

"Don't even think about ending that sentence." Daniel interrupted her. It was slightly cute the first time, but this time it was seriously pissing him off.

He felt his face set in stone as the rigid cords in neck tightened. He ignored her and put his other shoe on. Chloe watched in silence. Did she not realize how much he was fighting for them? She couldn't be serious.

When he finished he grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the house.

He didn't have time for the mess that was about to spill from her lips. Stay here? With them? After they just disrespected them? Never.

She was probably just going through shock and needed a minute to herself. She was just saying stuff. She didn't mean.

Daniel shook his head as he continued to pull her to the driveway. They needed to call a taxi if they were going to get out of here.

"Daniel," he heard a gentle voice whisper from behind him, but his was so caught up thinking about how they were going to leave that it went through one ear and out the other.

"We need a taxi." He voiced his thoughts out loud. "I doubt our driver will be allowed to drive us after what happened."

"Daniel," a soft voice floated over him again.

"Aish, a taxi from here will cost an arm and a leg at least. Damnit!" Daniel cursed. He couldn't believe his family's behavior tonight. He charged forward with Chloe trailing behind him. His hand never leaving her wrist.

"Daniel, please stop for a second" she tried again, but it still didn't register.

"Daniel!" Chloe shouted. "You're hurting me!" a frustrated voice shouted behind him.

Daniel turned and it was if he was seeing her for the first time. He was so caught up in his thoughts. He dropped her wrist immediately.

"I'm sorry, Chloe. I-I was rushing to get away from those people." He shook his head and took out his phone. What taxi would even come out here to drive them?

He wiped his hand over his face. This day was officially shit. Daniel turned and looked at the white house behind them. It stood tall and proud as coldness seeped out of it.

"Those people?!" Chloe looked at him with her eyebrows drawn together. The tears from before were gone and what was left now was anger. It was loud and clear on her face that she was angry. What was she going through? Daniel just looked at her confused.

"They are your family, Daniel."

"A family that you love, even if you won't admit it." She glared at the ground. "Listen, I think you should go back in there. They are probably worried about you."
