Varian's POV:

I sighed heavily as I finished jotting down my thoughts quickly, before sliding the small book safely into my vest.

I turned back to the scenery, though there wasn't MUCH to see.

Heavy swirls of mist rose all around us, making Prometheus nervous as he trotted along nervously through the thick fog.

Everyone was dead silent; even Hugo was keeping his mouth shut looking a bit apprehensive from the hidden unknown.

We continued along, darkness pressing down on our shoulders like a weight.

I didn't feel right...

I glanced back my team to see how they were doing and I saw their faces were drawn and tired looking.

Should I say something??

That's what leaders did, didn't they?? Rapunzel has always known what to do to get everyone motivated back up, even if the odds were completely stacked against us.

I mean, she got everyone ready to battle me when I had kidnapped her mother, and I was pretty darn prepared if I do say so myself— and despite everything, they were able to catch me.
And then there was that time with Cassandra, when she had completely taken over Corona. Again, things seemed highly unlikely we could ever win, yet she inspired and led us to victory.

It never came easy, but we still ended up coming through.

I wanted to do that. I wanted to become a great leader that everyone could rely on and trust!

I needed to break this silence!!

But... with what exactly?? I suddenly felt very awkward.

Just something. Anything at this point would work.

I opened my mouth about to encourage everyone when I was cut off before I even began.

"So as I suspected, the old guy didn't like his creepy-ass village and went mad, cuz' I don't see anything cursed.", Hugo cracked up right over me.

I groaned as the Nuru and Yong jumped a little surprised by the interruption of haunting quiet.

"Also, can't we move any damn faster then what we're doing? I know it's hard to see but geez...", he said jumping down from the cautiously paced cart.

I sat there as speechless as I was before as I stared at him.

Once again, he had ruined my moment for trying something, like he had done numerous times on this trip.

Anger coursed through me unreasonably fast with uncalled resentment bubbling inside of me, "HUGO!! Get back in the cart!!!", I suddenly yelled making Nuru yelp in surprise.

He turned back at me with a hand on his hip, "Excuse me?? Is there a problem?"

I blinked at him.

The. HELL. There. WAS.

"Yes!! Why.. why can't you just...", I struggled to find my problems into words. I ran my hands through my hair biting my tongue trying to calm myself down.

"Just what Goggles?", he threw back irritated, "I'm not doing anything!"

That was it.

I wasn't doing this anymore.
Since day one I've bumped into this asshole he had shown me up.

First taking the totem right from under my nose, humiliating me; saving my life twice in the trials in the seven kingdoms; playing leader and impressing everyone when that was MY job; now I couldn't stand it anymore.

I clenched my jaw, my teeth gritting against each other.

I stood up and jumped off the wagon and marched up over to him, my finger pointing up his face, barely hearing Yong and Nuru protest my actions, "WHY CAN'T YOU...?! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST STAY OUT OF THE WAY!!?! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS ACT LIKE YOU'VE GOT TO PROVE SOMETHING? ACT LIKE YOU'RE BETTER THEN EVERYONE?! EVERY TIME I TRY TO DO SOMETHING, BE A GOOD LEADER... YOU JUST, JUST RUIN IT ALL!!! I'M TIRED OF IT!!"

Hugo's eyes widened as I started screaming at him and he unconsciously took a step back from me.

"So?? THAT AIN'T MY FAULT, IS IT GOGGLES? YOU'RE THE ONE DOING A HALF ASSED JOB HERE!", he yelled right back his eyes hardening, "You're the one who's only SCREAMING AT ME FOR NO DAMNED REASON!!"

"ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?!!", I laughed incredulous, "I JUST SAID YOU KEEP GETTING IN THE WAY!! TAKING OVER THE SPOTLIGHT!! WHAT'S NOT CLEAR HERE?!"

"I'm only making things better since you don't know how to do it!! What the hell is wrong with that?!!"

"I THINK YOU NEED TO TAKE A TIMEOUT AND LISTEN TO YOURSELF!!"

"Where is this even coming from?! Why now?!!?", Hugo questioned angrily his voice lowering dangerously.

I wanted to slap him, punch him, stab him...

Every part of me wanted to make him hurt as I felt rage fill my lungs with cool blazing fire.

"WHAT OTHER REASON DO I NEED WHEN I EFFING HATE YOU HUGO!! THINGS WOULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU'VE NEVER COME ALONG!!", I screamed slapping him across the face.

He stumbled from the impact and stared at me with hurt written all over his face, but I didn't care. I wanted to continue hurting him.

"IF YOU'RE ALL SO THAT, YOU CAN MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT US!! I MEAN, YOU KNOW EVERYTHING AND ALL THAT STUPID LAUGHABLE CRAP, SO WHY DO YOU NEED US HUH?!
YOU DON'T!!
SO JUST FIGURE IT OUT!!"

"VARIAN STOP!!", Yong screamed pulling me away from Hugo by my arms, "STOP, STOP, STOP!!!!

Heavy fog swirled around up to my waist, making the younger boy almost hidden under the thick condensation.

"PLEASE!!! JUST STOP!!", he sobbed holding my arm tightly, "WHY ARE YOU SAYING ALL THOSE THINGS?!"

"Why?? WHY?!", I repeated pulling away from his grip, "Because he deserves every word of it!!!"

Yong shook his head, "No, he doesn't!! He's a part of this team Varian! You shouldn't be treating him like this!"

I looked at him utterly disgusted.

So that was how it was then huh?

"Fine.", I said narrowing my eyes, looking down at him, "Hugo can lead you guys! Cuz' to be quite honest all you've done is piss me off."

"Wai- what...?"

Yong stepped away from me, tears streaming down his face as Nuru just sat there like a grim statue.

Hugo's face was ashen as he watched me grab the backpack containing the totems and thrusting it into his arms.

"There you go Hugo, HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY.", I spat.

He opened his mouth, slight anger coloring his face for a moment, "So you're just up and leaving then Goggles?!!!"

I threw up my middle finger right at him, "Fucking right I am. Can't wait to get the news you killed yourself so close to your goal babe, made ever better yet with your amazing leadership.", I sarcastically smiled, baring my teeth.

I then turned and walked away without a second glance back.

The fog then consumed me, muting out the cries and calls for my name until I was left alone in the white fog and darkness.

-dang, Varian is so OOC but it was weirdly refreshing to write him this way, I promise it'll make sense soon-
