Chapter 30 - Broken

Megan's POV

It had been a week since I had turned away my friends, for their own good, and it had been 3 days since the strange lady urged us to go to Greece and save her country from the glowing gold ball. I should probably back up and start from the beginning.

I was sleeping, all comfortably in my own room when the doorbell rang constantly and woke me up. I grumbled, pulling on my robe over my underwear and storming down to the door of the base, Nat right behind me, "Don't kill anyone." She muttered and I growled at her.

I threw open the door to see a small, frail lady standing there with tears streaming down her face, "Are you the Avengers?" She asked in a mousy voice, "Are you insane?" I replied, "It's 3 in the fucking morning lady, have some decencey." She looked at a loss of words as she just stared at my angry face, "Megan." Nat scolded me as I caved, rubbing my temples. I put a fake smile on my face, "How can I help you?" The lady bit her lip, "My country is being taken hostage under a golden ball." Her voice was shaky and rang out in a thick european accent.

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked and Natasha ushered the lady in, "Come take a seat, just let me get the rest of the team." 10 minutes later, our team sat on our couches, draining back several cups of coffee in our pyjamas as we waited for the lady, who's name was Olivia to talk. She took a deep breath and began, "Earthquakes aren't uncommon in Greece but to have so many in consecutive days was unsettling, however we thought nothing of it. Soon enough, a gold light had bathed our entire country and some people claimed to hear whispers of a man with a ragged voice while others claimed his voice was rich and smooth." I unconsciously started to chew on my nails in anxiety and Steve gently took my hand, wrapping his large hand around it.

"No one thought it would get to the point where it is now, the golden light grew into a golden ball and the ball demanded stuff from my people, it was terrifying. The ball claims to upthrow Olympus from its roots in Athens and it asked me to warn you guys, the Avengers. He said if anyone had a chance to save my country, it would be you." I didn't notice myself shivering until Tony glanced over at me, "Meg, you ok?" "I don't think so." I whispered. They all stared at me confused until I looked at the lady, "Did the golden ball mention Lady Eros by any chance?" Olivia nodded, "Yes, he said he had some unresolved business with her that had to be taken care of." "FUCK." I yelled, I ran my hands through my hair as tears spilled from my eyes.

"Megan, what's wrong?" Steve asked, holding me and letting me sob into his shirt, "Kronos is back." I whispered and everyone spoke at once until Steve yelled, "that's enough." He looked towards Thor, "I thought you said he died?" "It seemed to be, but it seems as if I miscalculated that bit." Steve sighed, glaring daggers at Thor, I stroked his face, "It's not Thor's fault, he couldn't have known. Kronos is a sneaky bastard like that. It's time I take matters into my own hand." Steve held a hand over where I stroked his face, staring at me with surprise.

"We're coming with you." Nat broke the silence and they all nodded before I relented, "Very well, I'll ask Fury for a quinjet. We're leaving right now." Olivia took my hands, "Thank you, I hope you live for you are a very blessed and pure individual." I smiled at her, "Well, I am when I'm not grumpy in the middle of the night." Olivia smiled and looked towards the door, "I should go." "Will you be alright?" I asked her and she nodded, "Yes, my brother will drive me to the airport." "Alright." She turned around to leave but looked back at me, "Promise me you'll save my country." I bit my lip, "Olivia,-" "Please, promise me." I sighed, "I promise you I'll try to save your city." She frowned, "If that's the best you can do then very well." She walked out as I got ready with the rest of the team.

Tony booked us into hotel rooms seeing as we were likely going to be here a while and Fury needed his quinjet back as more and more earthquakes erupted in New York causing civilian uproar along with Kronos's minions creeping up into the world again. I thought Nat and I would share a room since we were both girls, but Tony surely wouldn't give up an opportunity to be an ass so I was stuck sharing a room with Steve.
