Chapter Nineteen - Into The Fold

In the days following the Grimm attack on Vale, the Kybuck Clan were summoned to Ozpin's office along with Professor Huyang. In the room was Glynda Goodwitch and General Ironwood.

Katooni: You wanted to see us, Headmaster?

Ozpin: Yes. If you all recall, I stated that we would continue our...discussion.

Petro: Well now we're here, so what's up?

Ozpin: As I said before, all is not what it seems. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that Remnant is in danger. This danger is posed by a greater evil.

At this point, the Kybuck Clan were deeply concerned. All thoughts immediately fell on the Dark Man. Soon enough, Ironwood interrupts.

Ironwood: Are you sure bringing them into the fold is wise? How do we know we can trust them?

Ozpin: I trust them with my life, James. They have proven themselves more than capable of facing this threat.

Ironwood: Even so, they're just children.

Petro: We've probably seen more action than you.

Katooni immediately elbows Petro, but Ozpin quickly calms the situation.

Ozpin: James, I appreciate you opinion, but I will keep my own counsel on who I bring into the fold. I brought them into the fold the same reason I brought you.

Zatt: You still haven't told us exactly what we're dealing with.

Ozpin: Patience, Mr. Zatt. I was just about to get to that. This evil I speak of is known as Salem and she is plotting to engulf the world in permanent darkness as we speak.

Upon hearing this, the Kybuck Clan were caught off guard. They didn't think a being was capable of such power, but they had heard stories of beings capable of just that.

Gungi: <If this Salem exists, then why don't we tell everyone about it?!>

Ozpin: We're not the only ones who are fighting this war. Along with Misss Goodwitch and General Ironwood are the Headmasters of Haven and Shade Academy. Also with us is Qrow Branwen. He is currently on a reconnaissance mission deep in the wilderness outside the Kingdoms of Remnant. He should return any day now.

Petro: So why haven't you gone after this Salem?

Goodwitch: Because we don't know exactly what we're dealing with. All we know is that Salem holds complete control over the Grimm. Other than that, we know practically nothing.

Ironwood: We believe the people responsible for the skirmish at the Dance as well as the Grimm attack on Vale may be connected. But we haven't found any sufficient evidence to make any conclusion.

Katooni and Petro then recalled the incident at the Beacon Dance where they encountered the masked man. They also remembered Ruby encountering a masked woman around the same time.

Ozpin: It's clear that some plot has been set in motion against us. As we speak, Salem is gathering her forces for an all out attack on Remnant itself. Remnant needs your help. There is too much at stake. I know I'm asking a lot out of you all, but you've seen but a taste of what Salem is capable of.

At this point, the Kybuck Clan took a moment to reflect on this. They had no idea about what Salem was or what she was capable of. All they knew was that she posed a dangerous threat on Remnant. Katooni then turned to her fellow Jedi and nodded to them. They in turn nod back. Katooni and the rest of the Kybuck Clan then turn to Ozpin.

Katooni: Very well, Headmaster Ozpin. If Salem is every bit as dangerous as you say, then we simply cannot refuse.

Ozpin smiled as he took a sip from his mug. Goodwitch had a similar reaction, but Ironwood had was skeptical.

Ironwood: I hope you all understand what you're getting yourselves into. This is unlike anything you've ever faced before.

Huyang: I don't mean to be rude, but you are vastly underestimating these group of exemplary young ones.

Ironwood: Am I? And what would a Droid know about such matters?

Huyang: I am no mere Droid, my good sir! I've trained many....Huntsmen and Huntresses over the year. Never in my time have I encountered such exemplary warriors. They may be young, but they wise as they are powerful. Underestimating them would be a grave mistake.

Ozpin: I would concur with our mechanical colleague. These youngsters are more than meets the eye.

Ironwood was still not convinced.

Ironwood: I see that there's no point in arguing. If you'll excuse me, I will go make all the necessary security precautions for the Vytal Festival.

Ironwood then leaves the room. The Kybuck Clan couldn't help but feel as if Ironwood was against him. Petro however was annoyed.

Petro: Asshole....

Katooni once more elbows Petro.

Ganodi: What's with that guy's problem?

Goodwitch: General Ironwood has...many disagreements with your headmaster.

Ozpin: It's quite all right, Miss Goodwitch. While I disagree with James on many things, but we both want the same thing. But that concludes our meeting. You may leave now.

Byph: But what about Salem?!

Ozpin: We will deal with it when the time comes. In the meantime, I believe you all should prepare for the Vytal Festival. Oh, I would also appreciate if you all kept this information to yourselves.

With that, Ozpin had brought the Kybuck Clan into the fold. Despite being concerned about Salem, all the Kybuck Clan could do was to prepare themselves for the Vytal Festival. Though the Kybuck Clan would continue to be wary of Salem's presence as well as the Dark Man.
