My mom pulled up in our white SUV.

"Hey Simon! How was school?" She said, cheery as usual.

"Good!" I said, walking to the car. I turned around.

"Text me later, Jasper?"

He smiled. "Definitely."

I got into the front passenger's seat and we drove home.

"Hi, Simon." Jill said. She was my younger sister. Currently in the seventh grade.

"Hey! How was school?" I asked, turning around.

"Alright." She said. "You?"

"Good. I made a new friend today."

"Oooh, really? What's their name?"

"Jasper."

"Is he cool?"

"Hmm. I'll find that out."

She smiled.

We parked in the driveway and stepped out of the car.

Mom took out her house keys and opened the door. The smell of lavender Febreze filled my nostrils. I sighed, the smell relaxing me a little bit. I felt tired from P.E.

My dad was sitting on the couch, watching a soccer game. He noticed us and sat up, smiling. A few wrinkles showed up on his face. His graying hair sat neatly on his head. He had a bit of stubble growing.

My mom was really pretty, pretty much looking like an older version of Jill. But she had shorter hair, that reached her collarbone. She also had a few wrinkles here and there. We were Korean, so my mom would occasionally speak it to my dad. Usually when she greeted him.

Jill had hair that reached her mid back. She was only a couple inches shorter than me.

"Hey kiddos. Hey honey." He kissed my mom's forehead and hugged Jill. He ruffled my hair.

"How was school?" He asked us.

"Good." We replied in unison.

"Good."

I walked up to my room.

I changed into grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt. Putting my hair in a low ponytail and sitting down on my bed. I had been growing it out since I was thirteen. I hadn't cared much to cut it then. Besides, I liked the way it looked now.

I picked up my phone that was on my nightstand. I decided to text Jasper.

Me:

Hey
3:24 PM

After a few minutes, he replied.

Jasper:

Hey!
Wyd
3:29 PM

Me:

Nothing, just
sitting down
3:30 PM

Jasper:

Well, let me give
you some songs to
listen to while you do
that.
3:32 PM

He then texted me list of songs to listen to on Spotify. I had an account, but I didn't use it that much. I read the list, and went to YouTube. I typed in one of the songs, "Can I Call You Tonight? by Dayglow" into the search bar and tapped on the song.

"I feel close"

"Well maybe I'm not, heaven knows"

"It's a spotlight stuck on the ceiling"

"Why are these the things that I'm feeling?

"There's so much time"

"For me to speak up, but I keep quiet"

"I'll complicate the most of the mantra"

"The power is out and I can't turn the fan on"

I liked the song. The beat was pretty good. I read the list again and searched another song: "Die For You by the Weeknd." I had heard of him but never really took the time to listen to any of his music. But this was an opportunity, I guess. I played the song.

"I'm findin' ways to articulate"

"The feeling I'm goin' through"

"I just can't say I don't love you"

"'Cause I love you, yeah"

"It's hard for me to communicate the thoughts that I hold"

"But tonight I'm gon' let you know"

"Let me tell the truth"

"Baby, let me tell the truth, yeah"

"You know what I'm thinkin'"

"See it in your eyes"

"You hate that you want me"

"Hate it when you cry"

"You're scared to be lonely"

"'Specially in the night"

"I'm scared that I'll miss you"

"Happens every time"

"I don't want this feelin'

"I can't afford love"

"I try to find reason to pull us apart"

"It ain't workin' 'cause you're perfect"

"And I know that you're worth it"

"I can't walk away, oh!"

I liked the song. In fact, I loved the song. Jasper seemed to have good music taste. I decided to text him.

Me:

I listened to some
of the songs. They
were pretty good!
3:42 PM

Jasper:

Oh, cool! Which ones?
3:43 PM

Me:

"Can I Call You Tonight?"
And "Die For You."
3:44 PM

Jasper:

Nice! those are
actually two of my
top 3 favorites.
3:46 PM

Me:

Oh really?
What's the third?
3:47 PM
Jasper:

Get You by Daniel
Caesar ft.
Kali Uchis
3:48 PM

I searched the song and listened to it.

"Through drought and famine, natural disasters"

"My baby has been around for me"

"Kingdoms have fallen, angels be calling"

"None of that could ever make me leave"

"Every time I look into your eyes I see it"

"You're all I need"

"Every time I get a bit inside I feel it"

I liked this one too. The lyrics replayed in my head.

Me:

Wow! I like this one too!
3:55 PM

Jasper:

That's great! I'll send
my Spotify playlist.
3:56 PM

He sent me a link to the playlist. I tapped on it and I smiled. I followed him on Spotify, getting a notification of a follow back from him a couple minutes later. I saw one playlist, "Jasper's Playlist."

I listened to the rest of the songs, liking most of them. I was amazed at how I liked most of the songs. His taste was awesome.
