Haikyuu x reader

History

A/N - this chapter is more so to explain about your past and swimming career. This is how free! Eternal summer and dive to the future crosses over into the story. It won't be 100% accurate as I'll be moulding it to fit my story. Sorry to change things around but for the sake of this story the haikyuu first years are a year older in age than in the manga. For example Kageyama would be 16. You have just turned 17 in this story. Also Samezuka Academy and Iwatobi High are in Miyagi in this story.

Your Background

You were in the water before you could even walk. You started swimming competitively at the age of 8. You are a young prodigy. Your main stroke is freestyle however you're just as strong at butterfly. You also can pull off a strong individual medley (IM). You've been given the nickname the iron anchor. As you're a strong all rounder ( like the Iron Lady herself Katinka Hosszú) but also your team can count on you always having their back in a relay (you're always the anchor position). Once you reached the age of 13 you were on a national level. You were too fast for the girls so you were put training with the boys. This meant extra land training like running and weights on top of your swimming. The boys didn't like you at first since you were a girl who could swim just as fast as them.

One boy in particular was especially pissed. He had long purple hair and razor sharp shark like teeth. He couldn't understand how a girl could be at his level. Especially one a year younger than him. While the boy pushed you away constantly, you couldn't help but look up to him. He did swim the same events as you after all. You followed the boy around like a little duckling. You even started doing his goggle strap snap before races as it became a habit of your own. You wanted to be as good as him. As time went on the boy grew to accept you as not only a rival but teammate. You became close friends. That boy was Rin Matsuoka. Rin had such a competitive drive that you admired. He swam to win, which is why he hated you for beating him at the start.

You on the other hand swam for the thrill but more importantly for the team. The rush you got from hearing their cheers. The butterflies you felt in your stomach on the block before the race. The feeling of gliding through the water. The brief second your head poked out of the water gasping for air. The sudden burst of power from pushing off the wall. The fear of letting your team down. Those feelings were what drove you. While you had different reasons for swimming you shared the same passion for relays. You made a promise to swim together in the Olympics. You'd make it there together.

That all changed when Rin returned to Japan. You felt like you were being left behind. That you had let down your side of the promise. That all changed when
Ryuji Azuma came to Australia with an offer you couldn't refuse.

What was this offer, well he had been watching you swim for some time now and wanted to take you on as an athlete. Not only that but you had been scouted for a spot on the all japan youth team. The only catch was you'd have to move to Japan. While he would be your coach, you still had to join a club to train with as well.

One week earlier

It was your first day in Japan. You also had your first training session with the youth team that day in Tokyo. That was when you bumped into a familiar friend. It couldn't be a coincidence that you were both on the Youth team. "Rin" you gasped holding back your tears. He was speechless. "(Y/n) is that really you ?" He stuttered.

After training you and Rin went to a nearby cafe to catch up. You explained your situation to him. Rin was now a third year student at Samezuka Academy. Not only was he the best swimmer on the team but he was now the captain. He offered you a spot on the team even though the school was an all male boarding school.

Your POV

"Won't that be a problem" I questioned. "I'm captain now Im sure I can bend a few rules for you" he gave me a devilish grin while ruffling my hair. "Besides looking at your times you're faster than everyone on the team" he stated, "even me" he grumbled. "I'm sorry what was that, could you say that a bit louder" I teased. "You heard me" he huffed. "How'd you get so fast anyways ?" He demanded to know.
