You choked on [favorite snack], then drank some water to soothe your throat, and choked on that too.

"He asked what?!"

"For your bratty ass to come with me. I swear to god, (y/n), pull anything and I'll send you to boarding school that'll teach you proper manners."

He just beat you using his quirk - his finger can act like a taser and shock you to the point where you forget your own name - and left without a word. You were expecting that, and you'd almost gotten used to him getting physical with you. Granted, it sucked, but it made X happy, and X was still pissed about you throwing her to the fire. Shadows do not like fire, anything with light, really, but X needs you alive.

If you die, X dies.

X is your shadow. You call her that because it's easy to remember, and it's been engraved in your head ever since. Your quirk, however, is not fun. At all.

Imagine shadows could talk. What would they say?

A shadow is defined as a dark shape caused by a body blocking light. So, it's you, but without light. Their thoughts are actually the same: the dark parts of the person's mind, their fears, pain, rage and hate, all compiled into something regular people see as a shadow. You, on the other hand, see it differently; you see the person in double. One is darker, but not absolute darkness. You sometimes confused them, which is why you occasionally wore a blindfold. It blocks out the light, and all you see is the shadow, which sounds confusing - how do you see a shadow without light? - but, in a way, you can feel them. You get a fuzzy image, the same type people get when they try to remember a dream. The shadows can talk to you, and you can talk back. However, they don't make very good company, since most just yell at you or cuss you out.

X was different than other shadows. Most people don't notice this, but, shine the light at any angle you want, you don't have an actual physical shadow. X is your detached shadow, and she can go wherever she wants. She can also possess objects and control them, fluids like fire, air and water included, although they're much more difficult to control. You yourself can shift into a shadow too, becoming a 2-D figure that can slip through walls and slide around a room without anyone noticing.

You knew you had a powerful quirk; asides from all the tormenting X does - she is your pain, after all - it is useful, more than useful, in combat. But, when Endeavor asked about your quirk, you didn't think much of it. Surely, it can't be impressive enough to get him to invite you over to his house, much less if he doesn't know the details of it. Now, you're being threatened to go over to his house and make a good impression for Uncle.

"Okay," is all you were able to say. Technically, X could control the electricity and make it go away, but she feeds off of your pain, and isn't the nice type.

Screw her.

"Touya, honey, stay here while I get the door, okay? We're having guests."

Guests? Since when did the old man even have friends? Or even invite someone over to his house? If he wanted to show off his children, he brings Shoto along and flaunts him. He'd never take the risk of bringing someone over and getting them to see his broken wife or failed children.

So what made him change his mind?

"Guests? Tou, do you know who it is?" Natsuo asked

"Nope. C'mon let's go play out back while he's occupied."

"But mom just said to stay here..." interjected Fuyumi, but Touya dragged his two younger siblings out back anyways.

Something wasn't right.
