"(h/n) merch! Get your (h/n) merch here!"
You rose through the ranks - as Keigo put it - quickly enough. It was less of your own effort than because of...
Well, because of Keigo.
You were, after all, his sidekick-that-isn't-really-a-sidekick-that-may-also-be-dating-him-but-isn't-actually-but-sort-of-did-before.
Being a Hero is confusing business.
You never understood all the hours and important work your uncle had to put towards managing Deracta, but now it all made sense. This business is almost like some convoluted form of politics.
First, you needed the hero costume, which the HPSC hastily designed for you. You didn't trust their choices; you didn't need anything fancy for your quirk, since it's an emitter-type.
But, of course, they just had to give you the sexiest thing possible.
A black body-suit with a deep, way too goddamn deep, V-neck decorated with a zipper that won't fucking zip further up hugged your body tightly, tracing out every curve, whether you liked it or not.
Well, I guess you'll just be sucking it in 24/7 while fighting villains.
The rest of the costume was much better: knee-high combat boots with thick soles, brass knuckles attached to your gloves and a large (and sort of heavy, but you won't admit it) belt to carry all your guns and tasers on.
There wasn't even a fucking hood.
You knew that you couldn't send it back to the HPSC and tell them "Hey, sorry but this is making my anxiety and body image issues soar through the roof, so if you could just-"
You knew you couldn't do that because this is a popularity business, and the fastest way to get loads of fans is to sexualize yourself, apparently.
You hated it, and decided to fix your issue by purchasing an oversized, simple black hoodie and wearing it on top of your suit.
Keigo didn't comment on it.
You could've sworn you caught him catching glances at you while you were dressed in the costume, but you didn't want to overthink this too much. After all, you were the one to fuck up in the first place.
However, being a Hero didn't extend uniquely to outfits.
You thought that you would only need to take care of beating up the bad guys and track them down if needed, but there is this lovely thing called "insurance", Hero-insurance, to be specific. If someone wrecks a bunch of property during their fight, they need to settle it legally to ensure that Heroes are not costing society too much in property damages and don't get sued.
Apparently, Heroes are seen as god-level beings who aren't allowed to make mistakes.
You had been interested in becoming one, just like every other child, but ever since Touya...
No, we're not going to talk about Touya.
Ever since your mother...
No, we're not going to talk about your mother, either.
It's like society was telling you to become one, but everyone close was suffering from their selfish ways.
Yet here you are, years later, training with one to become one.
'Sellout' X teased in your ear a lot during those first few weeks. 'How would Mother and Touya feel if they saw you with Keigo?'
