Naruto's POV
We were in Fukuoka, for our basketball game. We were going up against Toyama, who were 1st in the standings, ahead of us by 1 win. We were down 8 at halftime. I actually managed to shoot half-decently from the 3-point line, but everyone else was really cold, and our defense was getting shredded by a black guy named Rui, who was 6'5" and could shoot the lights out, y'know? And Coach Takashi wasn't happy, because he got into a heated exchange with Gaara about something. I couldn't tell what, but I came just in time to hear and see Gaara say this:
"Shut the fuck up Coach, if you have no fucking idea what you're talking about, then don't fucking talk to me!"
I was startled, as I saw Gaara cry and head to the locker room, and I knew that Coach was too. I was startled not only because he said that to Coach, but because I could somehow understand what he was feeling at that moment, mainly because I experienced it before. "Hey Coach," I said, "I can calm Gaara down. Just let me go to the locker room." He nodded his head and let me go.
When I got to the locker room, I saw a certain red-head with his head down, noticeably sobbing. "Hey," I said, getting his attention. "When did you lose her?"
He seemed shell-shocked. "Y-you m-mean ..." he stammered out, tears still in his eyes. "Yeah," I reiterated, "When did you lose your mother?"
"W-when I was b-born, and h-how do y-you know?" he replied, before breaking down again.
I cleared my throat after a while. "Well guess what. You're not the only one here who's an orphan." His eyes widened, as I continued. "Unfortunately, I lost both of my parents to a car crash."
"B-but h-how ... a-are you s-so c-cheerful?" He was still evidently surprised.
"Listen here. The only reason I haven't killed myself is because I was surrounded by friends that had my back and supported me no matter what. They're the reason I can cope with myself right now. You know Sasuke and Shikamaru? Yeah, Sasuke can be moody sometimes, and Shikamaru thinks everything is boring, but they've been there for me since that day, no strings attached." I continued. "I notice that there's always two people that are looking out for you, whether it's at practice or at games. There any chance you know them?" I was talking about a guy who wore makeup and carried puppets as well as a girl with emerald eyes and dirty blonde hair. The girl sometimes gets into some banter with Shikamaru, and she seems kinda cool, y'know?
When Gaara comprehended what I said, he said, "Those are my siblings."
"And Imma bet that you haven't actually tried to start a conversation or talk to them in a long time." His eyes widened again, and I continued. "Look, right now, you're gonna go to Coach and apologize for not keeping your damn mouth shut. And when the game is over, you're gonna give me your Snap. And if you don't have one, then you're making one. After that, you're gonna go to your siblings, and thank them for staying with you even though you were an asshole. Got it?" He nodded his head. "Alright, halftime's nearly over, let's go back out now."
Out we went to the bench. Coach Takashi gave us our halftime pep talk, and then we got out onto the court. Since Gaara was gonna have less minutes due to the outburst at Coach, I got more minutes. And boy did we play well. We obliterated them in the 4th quarter, and managed to win by 11. Personally, I turned in my best game, with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. I also managed to make some 3's, which was a positive.
After the game, I managed to talk with Rui after the game. "Yo, good game," I said. "You looked like a damn Michael Jordan clone out there." I said that cuz he had 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks, missing only 3 total shots. He replied, "Thanks. You was beasting too. Maybe I won't be the only one coming to the NBA, I guess."
"For sure, and I'm gonna beat your ass once we both get there," I said, kinda jokingly. "We'll see about that one," he laughed. Then we promised to stay in touch, for NBA stuff, y'know? And we went off in our separate ways.
On the train ride back home, Sasuke asked me about whether I was going to his big house party in 2 weeks to celebrate 1 month until the school year's end. When I mean big, I mean everyone in school that has a life goes there. Usually you go with a date, but you can go by yourself. It's pretty much like prom in America, except it's not an official school event.
"What about it?" I said. "Well, you're gonna come, right?" He asked. "Of course I'm coming. I came last year and two years ago, what makes you think I won't this year?"
"No, no," he said. "What I mean is, are you gonna bring a date with you?"
I froze. "Uh, no. Why would I?"
"C'mon, I always see how you act when Hinata's around. Ask her out." I froze again, and blushed. "What? Too chicken to take a girl with you to a party? What a pussy."
I took exception to being called that, so I went, "Alright, fine. I'll take someone with me. Happy?" "Very," he replied. "Don't you see what a good friend I am? With me supporting you, you went from being a pussy to getting some pussy." I sat up and felt my face go red, cuz I never thought of that, and right now, I don't really want to know or think about that. Since we were pretty much the only people in our part of the train, I yelled at him. "Could ya please stop talking about that!?"
"Damn, chill," he responded. "Looks like you're still a pussy." My eyebrow twitched, but I was too tired to argue. And eventually, I managed to get through the rest of the ride home without much stress, and went to sleep.
