Rest and Reflect

*I've decided to drop the character sheets at the beginning in case you haven't noticed*

(Basil's POV)

Cody and Tobias decided to lead Cyrus away to give him time to recover leaving me alone with the others, sans Kyla and Josh, and a couple of the Evolved kids. "Well that went well." Ashton commented sarcastically her dark grey eyes looking around coolly. Alexis let out a sigh and nodded looking in the direction the boys went.

"Now that he's awake we should move out soon." One of the Evolved kids who I now knew as Opene stated. He had dark skin and looked to be in his mid-twenties. He had black hair and his eyes were a dark brown with hints of green inside them.

"What about Jared?" I asked not able to hide the bite in my voice. He sent me a pity look but shook his head.

"If your brother was in the base he's not there now. He'll have to find his own way I'm sorry." Opene stated resting a comforting hand on my shoulder. I didn't look at him but I knew that he was right even if I wouldn't admit it. Deciding my silence was all he was going to get he let out a sigh and pulled his hand away. "Alexis. Basil grab Tobias we should have a meeting before we move out." Opene finished.

"Alright." Alexis agreed. Opene then nodded and called the rest of the Evolved kids with him and then left the tent.

"They don't trust us." A silky voice said behind us. I jumped before turning around spotting Tatem as he padded up next to Alexis and me. His fur was growing back from where he was burnt and his fur had a glossy look to it as he sat down regarding me with his yellow eyes. "What's our move." He asked out loud as he shifted his gaze to Alexis and then Ashton.

I felt unnerved at his presence but I tried to fight it back as I thought about his question. "I don't know they did rescue us." I stated.

"I think we we're doing pretty good on rescuing ourselves." Ashton spat. Mady like always was silent as she smiled at Tatem. Tatem noticed as he flicked his tail over her nose causing her too let out a slight giggle. Ever since we had left the base Tatem seemed to get along well with Mady. They were always seen together and Ashton was allowed a bit more leeway from her self-assigned job of protecting the young girl.

"I agree with Ashton we still don't know what motive they have for helping us." Alexis said putting emphasis on help. She looked a bit worn down and she leaned against Julie who was watching me her eyes thoughtful.

"But what other interior motive would they have for rescuing us, in my opinion we should accept the gift for what it is." Julie answered pulling a piece of her hair away from her eyes.

We were left in silence as we thought about it. I looked out of the tent and as I heard a happy cry from Josh no doubt he figured out Cyrus was awake. The sun was now just rising causing the snow on the ground to sparkle and the sky to turn a light pink colour. It was beautiful but I knew it wouldn't last.

It was just the calm before the storm.

We stood around in a circle away from the tents. Alexis, Tobias me and three of the highest ranking Evolved characters which included Shadow Bane(also known as Beau), Opene and Camilla. The rest of the group was busy with Julie keeping them occupied while this meeting went on. "First things first I understand that you don't trust us?" Beau said suddenly his green eyes focusing on Alexis. She averted her eyes as she answered.

"We have really no reason to trust. You obviously have a hidden agenda or why else would you help us?" Alexis answered glaring at the ground before back at Beau who was listening calmly. The one girl Camilla bristled at that though and she stood up quickly.
