It's been a month since johnny had gone missing, the gang was tired and worn out, mostly Dally. they had searched what seemed to be all of the state and nothing, they were thinking of leaving the state but Darry kept saying Johnny didnt have the money to leave and they wouldve found him if he was hiking there. "Let's just go! maybe he somehow found a way to go to- i dont know- Texas!"
Ponyboy went to protest until he remembered something he heard, 

"hey if you ever need anything im always here okay, johnny?"
"yeah, sure betsy, thanks."

Texas. Betsy. Texas! "He's there! Johnny's in texas!" Pony yelled, which caught the attention of everyone, "when we were there this girl gave him his number, told him to call her whenever he needed help!"
"Pony-"
"No, im being serious! You gotta believe me!"
"im with pony, better safe than sorry" Two bit spoke up, and soon everyone was with him. 
"okay okay, but that'll be a months or two worth of money!" Darry said, frowning at that
"then me and steve will start working double and Dally will get a job or sumthing!" Soda said, Dally agreed, he didnt care if he had to work as long as it meant finding Johnny he'd do whatever. 
"buck always needs someone to pour the booze and i can do anything else that old hag needs me to" Dally said

"okay, start working cause we need johnny here by September at best."

and they all nodded, Johnny was coming back.
