plot:
GRANT COLLEGE'S chess club was filled with more or less some of the top players in Ohio. One of these consisting of young prodigy June who had won state championships two years in a row, playing the game since she was 6. Despite being the better player one individual was keen on proving he knew the match better than she could. What once was her past time became a tedious competitive match constantly any time the two encountered one another.
Such only spilled over upon the choice being made regarding who of the top competitors would go against the Russian student visiting their campus that next month. With an unintentional rivalry only worsening as tensions rose, those around the pair only thought things couldn't get any better if they were stuck in the same room for too long. However once the dust settled and the political chess matches were king long gone, so did the competitive nature that came with it.

• double major in journalism and political science
• obviously in the beginning of this Alex is dating Ellen so she sees that side of him first hand
• ^only reason she lets them become friends at all considering, whether he wants to admit it or not, he does have feelings
• inspired from season 4 episode 16 where it literally centers on Alex playing chess, this is all events prior to this match
• continue after this to basically going to college and playing matches for fun every now and then due to their appreciation gained from the sport
• there for Ellen leaving, so the comforting friend support is >>>
• v. platonic until both becoming emotionally attached to the other after dealing with equally emotional events occurring in both of their lives
• ^ which inevitably confuses them into thinking that it isn't love even though it is
• June is smarter than him 100% and Alex is too stubborn to admit it I swear
