plot:
EVERYONE SEEMED to know everyone in Hawkins, Indiana. Whether paths had crossed or not the simple acknowledgment of an individual's presence could be said about much of anyone in these parts. Having graduated just recently this past June, Alice hardly expected to be stuck spending yet another summer in her hometown with the same people she'd always known as opposed to a planned trip out of state before her parents cancelled the trips due to her father's business keeping them in town. The idea of her staying wasn't completely bad as she took up a job at the still fresh Starcourt Mall in the hopes of making some extra cash before leaving to university at the end of the coming months.
Through frequent trips to the food court Alice was made no stranger to Robin who had previously met her at a party that felt like a millennia to the girl but still freshly prominent in the other's memory. A few innocent trips to the Scoops Ahoy! then turns into a fiasco of trying to decipher an encoded message to help the workers in question on their, apparently, top secret assignment.

• was Valedictorian of Steve's graduating class
• ^which means he thinks she would be into him but aha yeah no bb
• does get along with Steve though but he doesn't realize it's not her hitting on him and just her trying to be friendly
• literally the type to know four language which is why she knows Russian already and that's how she inserts herself into getting involved with everyone in the first place
• also is v. much the overachiever gifted kid that places all her value on how well she does in her classes and her worst fear is being labeled as a failure for not doing this successfully
• ^something definitely shared in like a heart to heart between her and Robin
• her and Robin met at a party (!!)
• not me picturing a cheesy spin the bottle moment with the bottle having landed on Alice but then when they spun it landed on Robin and everyone said no to it and she had to nervously agree because 🥲 (yeah definitely not from personal experiences of being closeted)
• through the course of her helping the gang her and Robin go about the different instances they'd come across each other and wonder why they never really talked as much as they did considering how much they had in common
