One month later

I woke up to someone shaking me, violently, I let out a weird sound; some sound mixed between a yip and a groan as I flipped out of my hammock and landed on the grass covered ground. "o-o-oh...." I somehow let out a laugh as the boy above me began to giggle.

"I see why Newt calls you Clumsy." The young voice said as I flipped myself onto my back, I shook my head as a smile graced my face. Chuck offered me his hand as I sat up, pulling me to my feet he began talking quickly. "I'm finally not going to be the newbie anymore; we are getting a new greenie! I'm so excited to see who it is!" He began to whisper yell.

I looked out of the door of the homestead as chuck was talking, only just realising how early it was in the morning. "Chuck." I breathed, "The box doesn't come up until midday." I said while patting him in the shoulder, "it only just turned morning." I look back out the window. The sky was a beautiful dark, washed out blue, and the stars were still disappearing.

"Sorry.... I guess I'm just really excited..." he said in disappointment. I looked over his shoulder to see that Minho and Newt were still asleep, causing me to raise my eyebrows.

"Well, you woke up before Newt and Minho, that's got to be a record or something, they are always the first ones up." I smiled, "Come on, let's go for a walk..." I say softly while slipping on my shoes and throwing on the nearest jacket.

The air was cold and crisp once we stepped outside, the morning dew still covered the grass and the two of us left footprints as we walked. "You know," I started, "I've been here for about two or three years now."

"Really? You never told me that.... and you're the only girl?"

"Yeah, the only girl..." I let out a small chuckle at the thought, "It always confused me why I was the only one. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised how lucky I really am..."

"Lucky? We are stuck in a box, surrounded by a maze, Avery. How exactly is that lucky?" Chuck questioned me with his eyebrows furrowed.

"Well if I didn't get put here, I would never have met you," I say while tapping his nose, "never of met Minho or Gally or Alby or Newt."

"Yeah, I still have hope we will find a way out..."

"We will, trust me, okay?"

The sound of laughter filled The Glade as the teenagers ran together; now filled with light, I thought it was the perfect time to play a game. I threw herself forward and onto the nearest person, which so happened to be Minho. "You're it, buster." I laughed as ran away from the boy.

Tag is mine and the boys favourite game to play, it also got our minds off of everything, every once in a while. Besides it was just before the runners were about to take off, so it was a good warm up. I ran over to the gardens in order to 'hide out' from whoever may have been it now. As I made my way over to the garden, I wasn't looking where I was going, that's why it wasn't surprising when I bumped into someone. "Oh." I laughed, "Hi there." I said as I made my way to hide behind the rack of tomato plants.

"Hi." The boy smiled while standing on the other side, slowly picking the red vegetables (or fruits) from the vines.

"I thought you didn't like the tomatoes..." I tried, while beginning to catch my breath.
