Memory
Giggles echoed throughout the long corridors, a boy and girl; brother and sister. The soft patter of shoes running against the grey concrete sounded dull, until they reached the expensive looking tiles of the cafeteria. "I'm going to get you, Stephen!" The little girl yelled out to her baby brother who was only 8 years old while she was 10.
Tag was Tasha's favourite game to play, however now that both her and Stephen were taken from home, it was used as a coping mechanism. The truth was that Tasha was terrified and she didn't know what else to do but make sure that her little brother was okay.
Stephen had run behind a long metal table, leaving Tasha on the other side. The cafeteria was a huge room in the centre of whatever place the siblings had found themselves in. The walls were a washed out dark blue, with the tiles being a blinding white; as though it had never been stepped on.
The room was empty, and the only thing breaking the silence that once was in the room before the two entered, was the sound of heavy breathing. Stephen and Tasha had only just arrived last night, so they were yet to see anyone. That's why they decided to explore, in the form of a game.
"You can't get me, Tasha..." The boy breathed as a grin formed on his face. His brown eyes boring into hers.
"Oh..." She questioned as she prepared for what she was about to do. "Are you sure about that?" She smirked.
"Yep. No way you could ever get me. I'm just too quick. I can run." Stephen said overly confident.
"But didn't you know, Stephen... We're both runners." Tasha breathed to him as she made her move.
She quickly put her hands on the cold metal slab; which was used a chair and flung herself onto the table in a swift motion. She landed in a crouched position, and a smile graced her face as she tilted her head to the side. Stephen's eyes widened as he realised what was going to happen. Without a moment's notice she jumped off the table and landed on Stephen, taking him to the ground with her. "Gotcha!" She giggled as the two lied on the tiled ground; causing Stephen to laugh too.
However, the moment of joy was suddenly taken away from them, like a lollipop from a child, as 3 people had made their way. Two men in white lab coats and a woman wearing a fully white dress and lab coat, she had blonde hair pulled back in a tight bun. Her face was round and pale; and she had blue eyes.
Stephen and Tasha quickly sat up and began slowly pushing themselves away from the adults. "No. No. No." The woman tuts, "It's okay."
The siblings were terrified, who was this woman and who are the men behind her?
"I'm Dr Paige. Chancellor of WCKD...." She introduced herself, "You're safe here. Wicked is good." She smiled down at the younger children.
"W-What do you want?" Tasha stuttered while standing up, Stephen slowly following her actions.
"A-Are you going to hurt us?" Stephen asked quietly while stepping closer to Tasha.
"No. We would never hurt you two, we just want to run a test-"
That's was enough to cause Tasha and Stephen to begin to run. Tasha grabbed Stephens hand and pulled him with her and out of the cafeteria and back into the hallways. But that seemed to be a bad plan as once they got in the corridors Stephen had let go of her hand, when she looked back, she saw her brother on the ground. "Steph-" she began to scream but they she felt a sharp pain in her right arm. Once she looked down, she saw a small needle with a green liquid, slowly making its way into her blood.
Suddenly she began to get really dizzy and blackness overtook her vision and she collapsed.

The girl woke up strapped down in a white medical chair. Her forehead was drenched in sweat and a new terror had taken over her senses. Who was she? Where was she? There were parts of her memory that were gone, though one had stuck with her. Her brother. But what was his name? She couldn't remember.
Suddenly, movement in the corner caught her attention, "Where am I!" She yelled at the strange man in a lab coat.
"You're safe." He said while walking over to her, "You're at a facility called WCKD."
"Why am I here?" She said while tugging at the restraints around her wrists.
"We need you to help us on our mission." The man answered simply. Then he began to walk towards the door.
"Hey!" She screamed, "Hey! Hey! I can't remember my name..." she said as tears began to form in her eyes.
The man faltered for a second, then he walked over to the bench and retrieved his clipboard. "Your name is......" he began to read, "Avery." He looked up to her as he said it.
Avery. She thought. At least I know my name.
"What about my brother?" She questioned.
The man began to read the paper again, until he finally answered, "Thomas." He said while putting the clipboard down and exiting the room. Leaving Avery to herself.
She finally let the tears run down the side of her face and she lied back down. She couldn't remember anything, and it was killing her, but she knew she had to see her brother.
Avery violently began to pull at her restraints, however she only just realised how many there were. Two around both her wrists and ankles. One around her waist and one around her thighs. She let out a yelp, mixed with a scream as the leather and metal began to dig into her skin.
The door to whatever room she was in opened, causing her to stop and look at who had entered. An older looking woman with blonde hair; Avery could read the pin on her lab coat - Dr Paige. "Let me out!" Avery yelled softly as the woman stalked closer to her.
The woman didn't say anything as she unbuckled the restraints around Avery, once she had one more to go, she looked down at Avery. "Promise me you won't run."
"Why would I promise you that?" Avery asked sourly, why would she trust this woman.
"Because I have someone you want to see, Avery." She said simply, "Now, Promise me. You won't run."
"I won't." Avery said as she realised the woman meant her brother. Dr Paige unbuckled the last buckle around Avery's waist and then looked to the door.
"Come on in."
A small figure made their way into the room slowly, and Avery let out a breath of relief, he wasn't harmed. He quickly made his way over to the chair that Avery was in and jumped into her outstretched arms. "Avery..." he breathed into her brown hair.
"Thomas..."
A/N: Sorry if this chapter literally makes no sense, but basically, it's saying that before WCKD had kidnapped Thomas and Avery their names were Stephen and Tasha. And then when they tried to run, their memories were wiped, and they got new names.
