Chapter 9: The Anti-Quirk Factor

The room was unnervingly silent, with only the occasional beep from the computer that started this whole mess being the only source of sound for them. Y/N stood frozen, not even able to move a muscle after hearing what Dave just revealed to him. He stared at him with shock, and before long his eyes made their way over to the graph the computer displayed, showing Y/N just how real things were and that he wasn't hearing absolute nonsense.

The proof was right in front of him.

I... I have an anti-quirk factor?

Not even David Shield spoke a word, it was rough to guess who was more surprised but what was certain was that it needed to be addressed. Dave was the one who invited him to the island, he was expecting shocking results to ensue from the visit. And although it was a shock not even he could prepare for, Dave eventually sighed and adjusted his glasses.

"I... don't know what this holds for you, L/N. This... this discovery? You've just written yourself into the history books; the first human to ever possess an anti-quirk factor! I know I was expecting something when I invited you to this island, but this? This is definitely not what I was expecting." Dave said, his amazement was starting to show itself now that he had time to think it all over.

Y/N could barely get the words out of his mouth, the shock was still very present in his own mind. "Mr. Shield, with all due respect... is there anything that could possibly be different with an anti-quirk factor that normal quirk factors don't have already? I mean, this is all very sudden..." Y/N asked rather quietly. Dave sighed as he went to turn the computer off.

"Like I said, I don't know. And I'm really sorry if this is feeling very overwhelming for you, I'm sure you've had enough revelations in your life already. If you want I can postpone the tests for a later date." Dave suggested, making Y/N look down as he wore a look of confliction.

"That's putting it lightly..." Y/N mumbled, remembering the past events and memories like they were yesterday, and in a sense they were. But right now he was in the present, he had the opportunity to broaden his horizons. So the boy thought it over. "You're a considerate man, Mr. Shield. If I was like my past self then I would definitely take that offer and comprehend that information for myself... but I'm not that kind of person. Not anymore. So no, there's no need to. I came here for a reason and I'm not gonna just walk away because I discovered something 'unique'. If I want to be the sort of hero I want to be, whatever that is, then I may as well face my challenges head-on." The Evisceration user explained.

The man looked at Y/N in shock, but just as Dave switched everything off he smiled at his reasoning and opened the door behind them. "Is that so? Well then, I suppose we should get going. History waits for no man, after all." Dave chuckled.

What this revelation meant for the son of Crystal was completely shrouded in mystery, whether it was good or bad remained to be seen. But there was no use in standing around and talking about it, life always required a little... practical... demonstration to get things done.

And so, Y/N was quick to follow him.

"That... it does not."

Y/N and Dave were finally on their way to the first testing area, what it entailed was left up to the boy's imagination. The hallways were surprisingly quiet as they walked down it and towards another elevator, not even a single scientist could be seen on their journey, though with the I-Expo going on across the entire island Y/N wasn't that bothered by it.

After his recent discovery, a little silence was the least of his worries at the moment.

"An anti-quirk factor... It's got a nice ring to it, doncha think?" Scarlet wondered, finally making his presence known in regards to Y/N's new situation. In a sense, it was his business too, since he was the representation of Y/N's power. The black-horned teen nearly jolted on the spot at his manifestation's surprise entrance, but he was quick to contain himself from making an embarrassing scene.
