Chapter 13: Remember Me?

Pure and utter silence descended across the room, with not even the flora around them making a rustle as David and Nova stood face to face with each other. Neither of them broke their stare, not since the Tendril user finally made his presence known a few seconds beforehand, but only one seemed to find satisfaction in the other's reaction. David then curled his tendrils around his arms, not entirely merging them but instead relaxing his stance as he came to a content conclusion. There was nothing around him that could pose a threat, at least not now anyway.

He could hear the sound of footsteps approaching behind him, and not a moment later Y/N and Mina finally walked through the door and made their way over to him. They both wore looks of utter surprise at what David just did with it, but the couple's main attention soon shifted to the purple-haired woman in front of him, who still didn't take her eyes off him even now.

"David? What's going on? Who is this?" Y/N was the first to break the silence as he stood beside Mina.

And after realising that Nova wasn't going to respond, David let out a chuckle and motioned his hand to her. "Y/N, Ashido, I would like you to meet one of my old... comrades... if you will. She's the one I was going to speak about before we got interrupted earlier. So... say hello to Nova, the judgemental son of a bitch who betrayed me alongside the rest of her damn group. I trust she won't be a bit of a nuisance." David explained while a smirk quickly spread across his face, it was absolutely clear that he was enjoying every second of this reunion.

"Nova? Hang on a minute, this whole thing's very confusing and all but... isn't she the one you said Y/N wouldn't fare well against?" Mina asked as she tilted her head in confusion.

Suddenly, before David could get around to answering that question a light stammer from the woman in question immediately caught the trio's attention. Y/N could see that Nova's eyes were as wide as they could be, almost like she had just seen a ghost... and in a sense she did. She stood there, frozen on the spot in complete shock, not even uttering a single word in the time Y/N had been there. But all of them knew that wouldn't last forever, as the villain eventually managed to clear her mind enough to actually form a coherent sentence to them.

"How... how the fuck are you... still alive?" Nova slowly asked with a stutter in her voice. She then began to clench her fists as anger started to swell up within her, before gritting her teeth with a look of fury. "I WATCHED YOU DIE, YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

"Oh damn, was not expecting to be caught up in a feud between a midget and our resident villain. Looks like she's a feisty one. And short too." Scarlet chuckled in amusement.

What else is new tonight? May as well start keeping count on the amount of shit that's happened so far.

David couldn't help but chuckle at Nova's reaction. "Hm? What was that? Sorry, you'll have to speak up a little bi-" David sneered before he was effectively silenced by the woman's rage.

"OVER SIXTY FLOORS, VEER! THAT'S HOW HIGH YOU SHOULD'VE DIED FROM! HELL, IF NOT THAT THEN THE DAMN BULLET WOUND FROM BEING SHOT! BUT HERE YOU ARE, STANDING BEFORE ME!" Nova screamed, making the couple behind David jolt on the spot from how loud she was. They turned to each other with a concerned look, clearly not expecting things to go like this, but the Tendril user merely shrugged the outburst off and stepped forward.

"Glad to see you've been keeping count, but maybe 'watching' me fall might be too strong of a word. Last I saw, you were holding hostages at gunpoint while your boss did all the work. And even then, not even he went to check if I lived to tell the tale. Just goes to show how fucking incompetent you guys are." David coldly told her, he then peered over Nova's shoulder and saw the unconscious bodies of Nobu and Daigo still in the ice, somehow not blown away by his surprise entrance from earlier. "Especially since all you're dealing with is a couple of high school students." He added.
