And look there's the light at the end of the tunnel.
REGULAR HANGOUTS
She didn't expect Jungwoo and his friends to come to the hospital for lunch. Nor did she expect his hair -which was once a dark brown almost black to now be a blonde that somehow looked different in lighting. "Look, now it looks pink!"
She was quickly assured that he wasn't the only one when the group he brought with him were all adorning new colors. Johnny was now a deep red, Yuta an icy blonde, Taeyong an electric blue, and the newer face Ten, who Jungwoo explained was the start of the series of changing with a short roughed silver hair color.
"So did you all go through a breakup or what?" laughs came from the table, "But seriously you all look like a pack of crayons." The group laughed some more as they all ate the takeout they brought. Jungwoo who sat next to her kept tabs on her by asking questions. "How are you feeling?" "Anyone giving you a hard time?" And so forth.
She couldn't deny, but his tentativeness was sweet and brought a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling to her. Shoulders touching she continued her conversations learning more about Ten, "Wow you speak five languages?" He nodded feeling proud taking another bite of his rice. "Yeah, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Korean, and English." She stared in awe for a moment, thinking about how smart he and all of them must be. "Johnny from Chicago, and Yuta's from Japan. A lot of us can speak multiple languages." Taeyong informed as they sat straighter putting on proud faces then bursting into laughter.
"Akina can speak English, she was born in the states," Jungwoo said, putting all his eyes on her. "I honestly thought you were from Japan also," Yuta let out. "My dad is Japanese and my mom is a Korean-American. I can speak a little Japanese though!" This made Yuta excited as he started speaking Japanese while she responded to the best of her ability.
The lunch soon ended as they told her that they had to get back which she had to as well. The boys left Jungwoo and her alone as they went to the car. She could hear the teasing words as they left which made Jungwoo cough unexpectedly. She watched as he took a sip of his water as pink tinted his cheeks.
Smiling to herself she stood up glancing at the watch on her wrist checking the time. From the table, he was cleaning up their empty containers, throwing them away at the trash bin a few feet away. Making it back to her he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well blondie you gotta go," she said teasingly dusting off his shoulder. Nodding he picked up his coat, sliding it on. "I'll pick you up, okay?" He asked. "Sounds good, my shift ends at seven." She responded. She knew at this moment there would probably be some sort of hug.
Due to all her knowledge -which was only dramas- she expected a hug but not wanting to initiate anything she stood there. Unexpectedly instead his hand lifted to the top of her head and playfully rubbed it messily, "See you later."
And then he was off.
The day became more hectic for him than he thought it would be. When Doyoung came rushing in with a tablet in his hands all the men looked up at his panicked face. Then Taeyong came out of his office with a stern look as he called out for everyone, "We have a new case."
Jungwoo twirled his pin as Ten who sat beside him stopped sketching doodles on a scrap piece of paper. Once everyone's attention was gained Taeyong began to speak, "Four murders in the heart of Seoul, each in an alleyway. Victims are young women, petite, and dark long hair." He stopped speaking, allowing Doyoung to go more in detail.
"They are aged from 20 to 26, every one of them worked in the area. I believe they were stalked before they were killed because the killings took patience. Each girl was cut along the ends of the mouth, then stitched together." Once he finished he resumed writing information on the board.
Everyone started to buzz quickly skimming and focusing on all the knowledge, hoping to find any sort of clues. Checking his watch the time was getting closer and closer to the time he needed to pick her up. He wasn't going to be able to pick her up.
Dread filled him. He was ready to see her. He wanted to, he missed her. His stamina was also decreasing, as his soulmate bond was going to flare up soon. But he couldn't just leave, because normally Taeyong would tell them to leave and he wouldn't do it this early if there's a case needing to be solved.
A huff of air escaped his mouth as he raked his hands through his hair. Twirling the pen once again he scrolled through the information but at this point he couldn't focus. The minutes were dwindling but he was still stuck here.
What he didn't know -because he was in his own little world- was that Ten had now gotten up and went to Taeyong. "You should probably let him off soon right? It's his first day and I can tell he's itching to go see his soulmate." Ten persuaded Johnny who they were next joined in.
"Yeah Yong go let him get his doctor, because I bet if he is away from her any much longer he'll start to get cranky." Johnny added while they all looked in the direction of Jungwoo who was currently trying to concentrate at his screen but every minute or so would lean his head back.
An uncomfortable pull was forming inside of him as the clock struck a quarter till seven. As the pulling made him stretch his sides and a cold prickly sensation traveled up his spine. At that moment he on the inside wanted to panic. His senses wanted him to.
But before he could go into panic Taeyong followed by Ten and Johnny came to his desk. With a knock on his desk Jungwoo jumped out of his world inside his head and looked up to his boss with wider eyes than normal.
Taeyong normally held a stern gaze -even though he was kind to all of them- but anyone could see the concern that glazed his eyes from Jungwoo's energy. "Kid you can head out, the soulmate bond is starting to act up." It was all sincerity as the two beside him nodded their heads simultaneously.
"Jungwoo you can go, we'll fill you in tomorrow." Ten said as Johnny added, "Yeah, go see your girl." There was a lacing of teasing in his voice but Jungwoo paid no attention and thanked Taeyong before sweeping on his coat and leaving the building.
And the strings of their bond began to light up, excited that the two would see each other again.
I feel like I haven't really covered the soulmate part of this book. So now the story will include the magic of if so that exciting. Hope you enjoyed!
