Almost a month since the shootout, Trixie had almost fully healed. She and Kaleb had been in touch with some of the Borders and the Walkers, they both promised to return with the ammunition and weapons that the Rabbit's needed. They only facility in the area that could help the women of the districts, so they were good on their word. They all knew Dr. Mullens would return with troops from WOLF, there were doubts within the Den that they could fend them off. The snow was just beginning to melt and people were considering leaving.
No one would blame or hold it against the people who decided to leave. Half the men had taken their wives, sister or daughters and the children that belonged to them and left the compound. An attack would happen, sooner or later. Leaving with their families was uncertain, but staying and WOLF coming was certain, what would happen then? It was anybody's guess, would they find the Hutch, could they flood the tunnel in time. Then after that, it was hard to find, but not impossible.
Trixie was lying on the dock with Kaleb, it was the only place that was constantly dry. "Should we start crops soon?" He asked as they gazed up at the clouds that rolled by. Planting usually started in mid-March. "I'm not sure if we have enough people, it seems a waste if WOLF comes and we have to leave." "It's going to get boring around here, just waiting to be destroyed." She laughed, but then she grew serious, "I think those who have the means to leave should. Get as many children as possible out."
Kaleb rolled onto his side, propping his head on his hand. "Call for evac?" She nodded, "Those who want to stay and fight can. I'm going to see him dead." "It won't stop WOLF." She closed her eyes, "I don't care if it stops WOLF, it will stop him. Anything else it does is just icing on the cake now." He gently swiped the hair from her face, brushing it to the side of her ear. "Sorry." She caught his hand as he pulled it away, "It's okay." He didn't hesitate, he leaned forward and kissed her.
She pulled him closely, kissing him deeply. He pulled back away from her, "This messes me up, I don't know what I can do." She pulled him closer again, "You said not to let my bad experience ruin it. So show me what's it's supposed to be like." Kaleb stopped, staring at her for a moment thinking. He kissed her slowly, as he weaved his hand along her thigh and up under her skirt. Her breath caught in her throat as he touched her. His kept his rhythm moving quickly in circles, making her gasp. She closed her eyes as he continued, leaning into her he kissed her again. He pushed into her harder, moving his fingers faster. Her knees came up, the moan turning into a cry. He could feel her body shutter along with the rhythm of his fingers.
His hand came up to her face as he kissed her again, he smiled on to her, "Was that better?" She was still breathing quickly, "Is that what it's suppose to be like?" She sounded astonished. He laughed, "Well yeah, it's not always like that, but yeah."
Jacob was still on the mend, but no longer bedridden. His left arm was now in a sling, and bandaged up. He was still diligent in his note taking, making sure to write everything that was still in his memory. Concern was growing in his mind with Greg, he was still hesitant on going to the Den, of finding Trixie. Why would he not want to bring her to the facility, why would he be concerned about taking the Den over and bringing them all back? There wasn't a lot of information on the original trails, but deep down Jacob felt that Trixie's genes might hold the answer to fixing the global issues at hand.
"You said they were heavily armed?" Greg's sudden appearance in the lab made Jacob jump slightly. "They were when they attacked my clinic, and they were always armed in the Den. But I never saw an armory. I think it should just be assumed that they are." Jacob was waiting for another excuse to not raid the den, but Greg didn't bring it up. They studied each other for a moment before Greg started up again, "You're positive that there are more woman and children there?" Jacob nodded, "I don't know where, but I'm positive they are somewhere there. And I need the twins. If we can get their mother that's great, she had a pretty normal pregnancy and is young enough to have several more." Greg cleared his throat, "What makes you think they are still there?"
