Dr. Mullens had not lied to Sadie in anyway about their deal, she was still a prisoner. The electronic bracelet on her ankle would trigger if she came within five feet of an outward exits. She was permitted to exit the building to the inner courtyard, but it was her only allowance to the outdoors. Not that she had much time to be outdoors, the hospital had an impressive number of expecting mothers that she had to attend to. The girls were all grateful to have her there; they were much more comfortable with her than any of the doctors that WOLF had to offer.
After a week had passed and she still hadn't seen Trixie she began to grow concerned. She was only allowed to attend to the pregnant women so she realized if she didn't see Trixie it could be a good thing. Sadie almost hoped that the injury Trixie had sustained in the shootout would prevent her from being able to have any children. The girl had been through enough the first time she was kidnapped. Her mind soon turned to Kaleb, he had not come for the girls in the hutch. He had put together the plans to save Trixie the time before, but what if something had happened to him in the attack. Even if he was alright, how would he find them? She didn't care if she was in servitude forever, or even killed, she was going to get that girl out.
Sadie looked like that aging spinster aunt that always had crystals and a tarot deck in her purse. Her long blonde hair was streaked with grays and she was soft around the middle. She wasn't heavy with wrinkles but time had left its mark on her face in a graceful way. Her smile and soft spoken manner lit up the girls in a comforting way whenever she had interactions with them.
By this time Trixie no longer was strapped to the bed, for now the fight in her was snuffed out. She too had an electronic bracelet as did all the "useful" girls in the hospital. Not leaving her room was a choice at this time, she couldn't bear the thought of exploring this place of nightmares. She already had plenty of those. Dr. Mullens was not sure if the new docile Trixie was real or another act so he had her on a regular regiment of lorazepam, assuring her it was safe in the event she became pregnant. There were only a couple of days before they tried the first round of donor depositing.
Her time consisted of staring out the large, permanently sealed window. Seeing the city below reminded her of the life she had when she was little, yet it was still strange and alien to her. Lights lit up every nook on the streets below, even if she managed to escape there was nowhere to hide.
"How are you feeling today Trix?" Dr. Mullen asked quietly from behind her. Without turning she simply shrugged her shoulders and continued to gaze out into the world that was so close yet so far away. He slowly made his way beside her at the window, looking at her she had no expression. "This could be the world again Trix, with your help. Do you understand that?" He asked genuinely. "Does it matter if I don't?" Being irritatingly too close to her, the sound of him sigh made her cringe. "What kind of monster am I in your mind?" She turned to him, taking a step back for her own comfort, "The big bad wolf. Blowing down houses and stealing little girls."
The Doc had to stifle his smile, the comment was so cliché and childish. "It's time for your injection, and I need to check your wounds." He stated motioning to the bed with his good arm. Her feet were heavy and dragged along when she walked. Sitting on the bed he checked her wrists, ankles and belly. The bullet hole was now turning from red to a fleshy tone and she no longer needed to be bandaged. As he changed the dressing on her wrists she asked, "Don't you have nurses for this?" Without looking at her, he replied, "Yes, but remember what happened to the last nurses to care for you? Ones here are afraid."
Stewing over his response she watched him put the injection in her abdomen. "I won't hurt them this time." The Doc let out a nervous laugh, "Well I won't chance it." "Well I don't want to be anywhere near you, you disgust me." He shook his head as he disposed of the needle, "Not much of a choice, you don't want Dr. Peterson in here either." Blinking slowly she turned, and squinted her eyes at him, "How much of what you do, is Ivy aware of?" Glancing back at her he bluntly said, "Everything." "And what happen between us at the Den?" The looked of confidence returned to his face, "All of it, she knows I did what needed to be done." Rolling her eyes she let out a deep sign, "Fucked up world you live in Doc, it's probably not worth saving."
