IT WAS AN MIRACLE WAITING TO HAPPEN

Ash

A nurse was busy disconnecting me from machinery. She lowered numerous bags of liquids from the pole standing next to my bed. She nodded friendly as she pushed her little wagon with goods out of my room. I wanted to ask her what she was doing, but she turned the corner quick. I sighed, resting my hands on my lap, impatiently waiting on her to come back. I realized that I was able to move without getting stuck in wires and tubes. I sat on the corner of my bed. Moving my legs up and down. Although the doctor already allowed me to walk bits up and down the hallway, it still felt weird feeling the hard ground under my feet. My body still uneasy with every step. Luckily my bed rest was short (although it definitely was not short) enough for me, to not have lost all my athletic abilities. My muscles shrunk a little, I appeared much thinner, but I was doing okay. My mobility was much greater and hopefully it wouldn't be to hard to get my condition back up again. The only thing holding me back from running, jumping, dancing was still...the pain. The last days I felt it all ease down. As my doctor predicted, it took very long for the medicine to hit me, the way they wanted me too. But when it did, things recovered quick. Very quick, the doctor said I was lucky I was young. My age shortened my recovery time drastically. This unknown disease would've been lethal for me, if it wasn't for this miracle to happen, if I was just a little less fit. To my surprise the doctor came in early, as I stared at myself in a long mirror leaning against the wall. I looked tired, worn out, but I was okay and that was all that mattered. He held my polse and smiled. D: "I'm glad you recovered so well Ash. I rushed in here for the good news." I figured it had to deal with my releasing date, which they were still unsure about. D: "We've been keeping contact with the hospital your mother is at. We just received a call, regarding her condition. She is awake. She's still to weak to be flown over, she'll spend her recovery time there till further research has been done." Out of pure relief I fell into the arms of the doctor. He wasn't surprised or shocked. He rubbed my back. D: "I admire your strength lady. We have never encountered such a good ending story. I'm glad you guys managed to recover." I smiled ear to ear, although it was not the news I expected, it was 100 times better.

With shaking hands I called my mom. A: "Mom?" M: "Hi baby. Hi" her voice sounded weak, I could hear her snicking, sniffing her nose. She was crying. That took me over the edge quick. Light tears glided down my cheeks. I tasted the saltiness as it reached my lips. I set down on my bed, listening to her breathing. This peaceful silence, of two living souls, emphasis on the living. What were the odds. The silence spoke her words. A: "I miss you so much." M: "I love you." We talked and talked, laughing, crying. Just happy that we were still able to walk this earth. She was so so unbelievably worried after hearing everything and so happy at the same time.

Later... I wondered around the hospital, walking for hours. Although I felt tired in my legs, I couldn't stop walking. This freedom, I missed it. My inner desire to go home was greater then the pain in my legs and back. I wanted to go so badly. I asked the doctor if he could please review my recovery plan. I said, that I was able to recover at home. If I was lucky, which I already was, he would get my medicine taken care off today. My mom was doing much better that I anticipated, it easied my mind. As I sat down on a bench in the main cafetaria, I watched sick souls, old and young ones stroll past. Some on the verge of death, some just learning to walk again.
