As Aquila passes the dark halls, but the bright lights of the Jack-o lanterns made the Great Hall shine. The Great Hall smelled like cooked apples and cinnamon. 'It smells like fall', Aquila thought as she entered the Great Hall. When she looked up front, there sat Professor Dumbledore and the rest of the staff. The wavy-haired girl walked up to the table filled with students in green cloaks and sat next to her friend Victoria.
"I am so excited for the ball!", Victoria said in a cheerful whisper that only Aquila could hear. Aquila nodded at her and smiled, signaling that she was also excited.
"Do you have a date?", Victoria asked Aquila. Aquila shook her head as a frown formed on her face. It's three days left until the ball, and she doesn't have a date. Everyone in her friend group has a date, even Crabbe and Goyle. Victoria gave her a sympathetic look, then looked in front of the staff when she heard Professor Dumbledore speak.
"As many of you know, the ball is going to be in 4 days. I have noticed that many of you have thought that this is going to be a date ball, but no it is not. The ball was created for all of you to meet different people, and not judge by appearance. So you will all be going alone to the ball.", the bearded man said. People yelled and booed Professor Dumbledore. Girls were devastated and boys had a neutral reaction. All of a sudden, a flock of beautiful owls entered the great hall, one of them leaving a package in front of Aquila. Aquila furrowed her eyebrows, knowing that she never gets mail from home. She stood up, grabbed the package, and down to the dungeons to open the box.
Once she entered the green cold room, she sat on one of the leather sofas. Aquila put the package on her lap, and took a deep breath before opening the curious-looking box. When she took the top off, there laid a dress. Aquila gaped and covered her mouth in surprise. The dress had a note. Aquila furrowed her eyebrows at this.
Dear Aquila,
Your father and I heard that there would be a ball at Hogwarts on the 31st. We wanted you to look at least presentable so we sent you this dress. Take care of it, we won't be sending you any more things through out the year. Please, do not ruin the dress.
Sincerely,
Claudia Phoenix
Aquila frowned at the note her mother sent her. She was grateful for the dress, but something about the note made her feel bad. It was so cold and unhappy. Aquila snapped out of her thoughts and opened the other note on top of the dress.
Dear Aquila,
Your mother and I miss you greatly. I hope you like the dress the mother and I picked for you. I thought it brought out your beautiful brown eyes. My daughter, I wanted to tell you that you will have to stay at Hogwarts for the Holidays this year. Your mother and I have some important business to catch up to. Please, take care of yourself. I love you.
Sincerely,
Angelo Phoenix
Aquila smiled at the letter her father sent her and folded it into the box. Her body turned warm, covering the coldness of the letter her mom sent her. Aquila's relationship was never good with her mom. They would always spend their days together fighting and arguing. Her father in the other hand, was always sweet to her, full of love and patience. Aquila covered the box again and went up to her dorm room to save it there.
Authors Note
Hey guys! I'm sorry this chapter isn't as good as the others, it was just a filler chapter. I also used it a bit to show Aquila's relationship with both her parents. I will be posting the next chapter soon! The next chapter will take place on the ball.
Thanks for reading!-Mel
