45. Fault Of The Fates

Yuxin's POV

I silently watched as a nurse escorted Lin Fan and Esther into another room to start the blood donation or whatever they call it. The realization is slowly but surely sinking in to my mind right now. Everything is going so fast. My day started out normally, my hours occupied with repeatedly practicing for the final stage and my mind diverting to Y/N more times than enough.

I was excited, thrilled because they were supposed to return this morning, but fate is playful, almost cruel to lead us up to this point. Or is this merely a mistake? I turned back to the nurse who came from the operating room.

"The patient, Y/N, is she alright now?" I asked so lowly that I'm not even sure if she heard me or not. Surprisingly, she turned to me and gave a small smile.

"We don't know for now, but we are doing our best and she seems to be a fighter." She answered for all of us to hear before giving another smile and returning to the operating room.

Her words helped a bit, but I can't help but feel doubt in me. What if she only said that to comfort us and not make us distressed? I bit at my nails as my other hand gripped my right wrist where our soul accessory hangs. Y/N, please be alright. We still have lots of promises to fulfill, don't we? Please start by coming back to me.

"Liu Yuxin." A call broke me out of my thoughts, making me look up to see Mr.Hu looking at me with a small smile on his lips.
"Just trust okay? She's going to be alright. I know she will." He comforted, making me nod and smile weakly.

"You're the Liu Yuxin?" The woman beside him spoke up, making me nod again. She might be Y/N's Grammie.
"Yes ma'am. It's nice to meet you." I greeted politely and slightly bowed.
"It's nice to finally meet you too. Although it could have been under better circumstances." She said softly, smiling at me. I couldn't agree more.

"Don't worry about Y/N too much. That girl is as stubborn as anyone can ever be. She won't let up." She added, lightening up our spirits a bit.

I watched as she suddenly stood IP from her chair and walked until she was standing only a foot or so away from me. She looked at me for a moment before continuing and sitting beside me. I sniffed and turned to her. My eyes are probably all swollen and red from all the crying I did.

"Come." She urged, opening her lithe arms and engulfing me in a hug, making me stiffen up. I don't usually hug people, well except for those I'm really close to or more like Y/N, but I can't help but find a mothering familiarity in her embrace. I slowly relaxed and hugged her back slightly. Her hug is comforting, much like my mother's. It makes me cling to her a little more. We stayed in that position for a couple of minutes, her hand patting my back occasionally as a form of comfort. I breathe in deeply to collect myself before pulling away from her.

"Are you feeling a bit better now? You looked like you needed a hug." Mrs.Hu said, retracting her arms and giving me a comforting smile.
"Thank you Mrs.Hu also sorry for dampening your clothes." I said as I noticed the shoulder part of her blouse is now wet with my tears.

"Dont worry about it, sweetie. And drop the formalities okay? It makes me feel older than I already am. Call me mama or even grammie okay?" She gave me a soft smile and a nod, leaving me no choice but to also nod in agreement as I also felt comfort and warmth sprouting in my chest at her actions.

"I think I need a hug too, mama." Kiki said, making Mrs.Hu, I guess mama now, the to her.
"Kiki darling, come here." Mama said as she stood up to join Kiki.
"You silly fox, dry those tears. Y/N is alright." She said as she hugged Kiki.

Things were a bit calmer and better after that. The atmosphere was gradually lifted but the anxiousness failed to cease its existence. Keran sat beside me, equally as anxious, but for more reasons. Her eyes were restless, fleeting to the doors of the operating room, the clock, towards the end of the hallway and back again. One of her arms across her chest while she uses the other to brush her hair back, from time to time. Her eyes met mine and she paused momentarily before sighing and going back to what she's doing.
