xix. You Are In Love
Annabeth still can't believe she let Percy convince her to stop studying (for a break) and head upstairs to the empty rooftop of the cafe they had visited during homecoming to cuddle on a school night. But it was very peaceful with her body being enveloped in his arms, protecting her from the now cold mid November. They were quiet even though it was just them and bathed in the comfortable silence."Isn't this much better and more fun than studying stupid calculus?" he whispered and she chuckled, "Hmm?"
"Definitely," she nodded, "But I'm still nervous about the test tomorrow—"
"You're going to do fine. You're Annabeth Chase, the smartest girl I have ever know," he reassured, "I remember reading some articles that over studying is not good and can lead to bad scores, so it's good to take breaks."
"I guess..." she sighed and Percy smiled.
"The Moon Is Beautiful, isn't it?" he softly smiled, gazing at the full moon.
Her heart fluttered at Percy's words and a soft smile formed on her face as she drifted her eyes from the glowing moon to him.
"Yes, it is," her eyes softened, "I love you, Percy."
Percy's eyes met hers and gently kissed her forehead, "I love you too, Annabeth. I'm so happy that I met you."
"Me too," she then chuckled, "Who knew sitting next to you on that bench two months ago would lead me right here? I'm grateful that it did. You're what made me love Manhattan so much."
His sea-green eyes glimmered, "And you're the reason why I'm falling in love with Manhattan even more."
Though Annabeth was beaming, for some reason, her heart sank. Two months ago, they just met and now, they're just saying that they love each other. Were they moving too fast? Everything felt so right now—but what they'll do when the high of falling in love is over? Nothing good lasts forever, Annabeth knows that.
"Is something wrong, Annabeth?" frowned Percy, noticing her smile faltered, "What's wrong?"
"No, no, no, it's nothing, I promise," she reassured with a smile, quickly dismissing her worries, "Let's enjoy our time together before I have to go home."
Percy nodded and intertwined their fingers, "I wish we could stay here forever."
"'Me too," she rested her head on his shoulder and happily sighed.
When Annabeth come home, Helen asked her how her study session went and she told her that it went good, not including that she was with Percy and they didn't do much studying (blame her very adorable boyfriend! he was just too cute to resist) and headed to her bedroom to go to sleep.
A pang of guilt overwhelmed her for lying to Helen and her dad that she wasn't dating Percy. It also wasn't fair to Percy: he thinks Helen and her dad approves of their relationship (and Annabeth doesn't have the heart to tell him otherwise).
Helen and her dad had strict dating policies, not wanting Annabeth to be distract from her studies, and she always obey those rules til she met Percy; she now could careless about them even though she will most likely face the terrible consequences for falling in love at age seventeen.
The wise decision was to distance herself from Percy before her parents found out, Annabeth was too love with Percy to do that. She could never.
