Akasuki leaned against the gym door gazing up at the rising moon. She didn’t expect today to be so busy. It was her first practice tournament so it did make sense.
“Hey,” Kuroo spoke joining her side, her eyes watching as he held out a bottle of water, “how ya feeling?”
“Tired,” she spoke accepting the bottle, “you?”
He shrugged gazing up at the moon like Akasuki. She wondered what was on his mind. The ever-scheming captain.
“You can speak to me, you know,” she slowly claimed with a side glance.
He returned the glance,
“something feels off.”
“Feels off?” Akasuki repeated, does he know?
Kuroo shrugged taking the water back from her hands helping himself to a sip,
“like, everything’s going smoothly,” right, she thinks she knows where he’s going with this.
“A little too smoothly?”
He nodded,
“exactly.”
She was used to that feeling. Especially now when she was happiest.
“Hey,” Akasuki spoke taking the bottle back, smiling slyly at him, “you’re complaining because things are going well?’”
She can solve that. He shrugged smirking,
“even Kenma’s come out of his,” before he could finish his sentence, Akasuki had lunged towards him in attempt to tip the water over him.
Yet, Kuroo had reflexes of a cat, grabbing her wrist practically forcing the water over herself instead, chilled water flooding over her face as she let out a yelp,
“Kuroo!”
“You started it!” he argued grinning widely.
“No way,” Akasuki claimed smirking hastily glancing around for more options.
“Uh-uh,” Kuroo warned noticing her spot the bottles hidden in his bag, “Suki, you’re smart but not that smart.”
We’ll see Kuroo. She grabbed a bottle at the same time as Kuroo, yanking the lid off, throwing the water towards him, watching as Kuroo done the same. Yet, neither of them became soaked. What? Before them stood a dripping Yaku, eyes closed and fists clenched.
“Oh shit,” Akasuki gasped stepping back.
“We, eh, we should run,” Kuroo claimed grabbing his bag hastily.
“I should fucking think so,” Yaku growled, his eyes opening, anger flaring.
Ah fuck. Kuroo sprinted to Akasuki grabbing her arm,
“come on!”
She wasn’t going to argue. Alongside Kuroo, Akasuki sprinted to her greatest ability, skidding around corners and racing through doors. This was exhilarating. They bounded up the stairs, Kuroo ahead of her,
“almost there!”
Where were they even going? Akasuki had forgotten to question it. Whatever, she didn’t mind. Kuroo suddenly jutted left into a room,
“Lev!”
Ah fuck, Akasuki almost slipped along the floor grabbing the doorframe pulling herself into the room as Yaku’s grasp almost grabbed her. Fuck, her instincts kicked in as she threw herself at a hunched over figure,
“Kenma, help!”
His head shot up as Akasuki suddenly grabbed his shoulders huddling behind him, her chest against his back.
“Too slow!” Kuroo remarked from behind Lev.
Looking at Yaku, he genuinely resembled a helpless, drenched cat. Akasuki covered her mouth as she started to laugh, this was hilarious. Lev had pulled out his phone,
“smile short stuff!”
Yaku’s face was burning like wild fire as he smacked the phone from Lev’s grasp, watching him helplessly attempt to catch it, turning his attention to Akasuki behind Kenma. Uh oh. No way. He stepped towards them, his eyes faltering slightly. Kenma suddenly stuck out his arm,
“this is a safe zone.”
Thanks, Kenma.
“Safe zone?” Yaku growled, “there’s no such thing!”
Abruptly, Kuroo skipped past Yaku throwing himself beside Akasuki, grinning widely,
“there is!”
“Whatever,” Yaku grumbled stomping back to Lev, “punishment time.”
Lev’s eyes widened as he grabbed his phone straightening up,
“bring it you baked bean!”
As if almost like they hadn’t even been in the room, the pair had vanished into the corridor, Lev’s yells of helps echoing. Awe, that’s kinda cute. Akasuki fell back onto the bed,
“that was fun.”
Kuroo copied her,
“I second that.”
Suddenly Kenma's foot appeared kicking Kuroo until he rolled over onto another bed,
“you’re wet.”
Kuroo frowned like a betrayed kitten,
“so is she!”
Kenma furrowed his gaze,
“only thanks to you.”
Akasuki leaned onto her elbows sticking her tongue out at Kuroo,
“poor captain.”
“You’re going to catch a cold,” Kai claimed holding out a towel to Akasuki and Kuroo.
Right, she took one, thanking him as she hurriedly dried her hair throwing it to the side. Tora and So suddenly appeared holding out a jumper each,
“here!”
What is happening? She shook her head,
“no, thanks.”
Kenma cleared his throat pushing the blanket towards her. Ah, she grabbed the blanket wrapping it over her shoulders, grinning up at them
“I’m all sorted!”
The pair glared at Kenma, who had returned to his game, looking at one another before trading jumpers. Simple solution. She chuckled shaking her head, leaning forward to look at Kenma’s game,
“cool game.”
He hid his grin instead nodding at her. So cute. Kuroo suddenly appeared watching Kenma’s game too,
“I think she deserves more words than that.”
Only if he knew how many words she got. Not only words, so much more. Kenma shrugged.
“For that,” Kuroo grabbed his game, Kenma’s hands frozen in place, “walk her back to her room.”
What? Seriously? She wasn’t against it but, wouldn’t it be suspicious? Kenma shook his head,
“no.”
“We’ll take her!” Sō and Tora exclaimed loudly.
“No,” Kuroo grunted standing to his feet, pulling Kenma and Akasuki up to their feet, lightly pushing them towards the door, “otherwise I’ll confiscate it the whole weekend.”
Harsh Kuroo, harsh. Kenma groaned with a short nod, trudging through the door away from Akasuki. Akasuki glanced to the team, saving goodbye,
“goodnight, sleep well!”
There was the same series of response as Akasuki followed after Kenma, catching up to him. Wow,
“you’re a good actor,” Akasuki whispered.
Kenma lifted his head, a smile on his face,
‘no, I just really wanted to walk you back.”
Whoa, heat grew in her face as she averted her eyes. Sometimes he’s too bright to look at,
“me, too.”
She felt fingers brush up against hers as Kenma looped their hands together, swinging them loosely. The smallest things he does, its like being intoxicated by a drop of rain. Unbelievable. How does he make her crumble with every glance, word, smile?
“Look, it’s Lev and Ya,” Kenma’s words faded as Akasuki lifted her eyes to see Yaku grab Lev’s shirt, holy shit, pulling him down to his height, his lips moving slowly, Lev’s eyes widening.
No way. Out of the whole team, Yaku was the one to get dragged into Lev’s orbit. As dumb as Lev is, he’s always been Akasuki’s shadow. She owed him. Akasuki suddenly stopped moving pulled Kenma flat against the wall with a smirk, his eyes wide,
“you looked good during practice.”
Kenma tilted his head between Akasuki’s palms on either side of his head,
“really?” as if something flipped on inside of him, a smirk grew, eyes piercing into hers, “I couldn’t even tear my eyes off you.”
Whoa. This was meant to be her distracting him. Yet he’s someone switched it up to make her the target. Fuck. She covered her face with her hand as she hid the flustered mess she had became. Kenma chuckled weakly,
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think,” he let out another laugh pulled her hand from her face, “you’re cute, Suki, I only practiced that hard because you were there watching me.”
“Kenma,” Akasuki whispered, Kenma meeting her lips halfway, engaging in a slow, enchanting kiss.
Kenma. There wasn’t a day that went by where Akasuki wished she had watched you from the start. But she here now, and she’ll stay, stay watching and supporting him till the end. Akasuki couldn’t pry herself away from him. She wasn’t sure what this feeling was. Longing? Admiration? Whatever it was, she didn’t want to let go. Not yet.
“Suki,” Kenma whispered pulling away with a gentle smile, “if we take too long, they’ll get suspicious.”
Akasuki frowned, nodding slowly as she pulled away. Another time. She glanced towards where Yaku and Lev last stood. They weren’t there anymore. Thank god. Kenma took her hand leading her down the corridor, occasionally smiling at her. She truly was bewitched by this boy. They reached the room Akasuki was staying in with the other team mangers. Did she really have to go? She pouted at Kenma who returned a soft squint,
“how about,” he pulled of his jumper golfing it out to her, “don’t make it obvious.”
Akasuki grabbed the jumper pulling it on in a haste, getting her head stuck in one if the arm holes, Kenma’s laugh ringing through her ears as he attempted to help her. Her head popped out of the hood smiling widely at Kenma, strands of her glued down by sweat. She probably looked crazy right now. But it was worth it. Akasuki scooped his face into her hands pressing a kiss against his cheek,
“thank you Kenma.”
He returned the kiss, pressing his lips against her forehead,
“goodnight Suki,” he ruffled her hair watching her enter the room with a large grin.
Fuck. She closed the door behind her, staring at the girls in small groups watching her.
“Akasuki,” Kiyoko ushered her over towards a younger girl with blonde bangs and a nervous smile, “this is Hitoka Yachi, Karasuno's new manager.”
Ah,
“It’s nice to meet you,” Akasuki smiled, “I’m Nekoma’s manager.”
“I know!” she blurted, cheeks growing red, oh, shaking her head, “I mean, I saw you! And I assumed.”
She must be nervous. Akasuki chuckled,
“I saw you too, well, I saw Tadashi and Shoyo surrounding you.”
“Right,” Yachi murmured, “I was updated on all of the dra,”
“There’s no drama,” Kiyoko interrupted, in a kind manner, drama?
Yachi’s face grew crimson red as she turned away,
“r, right!”
Kiyoko shook her head, a smile on her face gesturing to the bed beside hers,
“you know what first years are like, stuff gets spiralled out of control.”
Akasuki lowered herself into the bed, staring up at the ceiling, she was completely right,
“you think your lot is bad, I don’t know how Kuroo managed these lot himself.”
A melodic laugh let her slips, Kiyoko lowering herself into the bed beside Akasuki,
“you’re doing a great job.”
“Thanks,” Akasuki spoke, “better get to sleep, who knows what awaits in the morning?”
Kiyoko agreed, the pair of them shifting in their beds saying goodnight to the rest of the girls before greeting sleep gratefully
