The ride home felt... bittersweet, to say the least. You were anticipating what was to come to the point where it was almost the only thing you could focus on, but that small part of you that wasn't kept on reminding you of the situation involving the folks sitting in the front of the car.
"It'll be fine, I'm sure of it..." You mentally insisted, though not with complete confidence, letting out a faint sigh.
"Chin up, Gumdrop! We're almost there.~" The clown sitting beside you cooed, and you saw the arm you just know realized you were leaning against extending itself. He used this extra length to reach up and boop your nose with the point of his index claw, making you smile.
It would be nice to finally have some alone time again, regardless of whatever was going to happen in the future. Even though you were still in some shock regarding your newly discovered feelings, you wanted nothing more than to be safely curled up in his arms again.
Another five minutes passed before the car came to a stop, and the couple turned back to offer you their best smiles. As nice as the gesture was, you knew it wasn't easy for them.
"If you need anything just call, okay? We love you." Your adoptive mother said, and you nodded, hoping your smile was convincing enough as you said: "Love you both, too."
You unbuckled yourself and climbed out of the car, blowing them a kiss as you did so, then quickly shut the door behind you just after Jack flew out.
You tried not to rush as you walked onto the pavement of the driveway, waving at the car as it turned around and drove back the way it came. They were probably going to take pictures and enjoy the snow while it was still peaceful.
"Alone at last...~" You felt his semi-warm breath against your ear while his large hands held your shoulders. Your whole body shivered and you knew it wasn't the cold you had to blame for it.
Your heartbeat once again sped up, and you tried to keep your brain under control. The simplest three words that explained what you were feeling kept ringing in your head on loop, but they stopped as Jack spoke up again.
"I've got an idea, ever sat on a roof before?" He snickered, and your eyes widened.
"Um... no?" You raised a brow with a nervous smile, looking back at the clown who's face was just inches from yours.
"Why don't we change that?" He grinned, covering your eyes with one large hand before you heard him snap, and you were suddenly sitting down on something rough.
When he lifted his hand you gaped as you looked down, seeing the boot prints where you'd just been standing were now a few feet below you.
Even though heights weren't always easy to deal with, when Jack's hand led your head to look up, you gasped faintly at the sight.
The sky was filled with countless twinkling stars, and although the snowy clouds were still present, it wasn't nearly enough to spoil the view.
As you stared up in awe, you somehow forgot all about your fears, and the voice in your head fell silent.
"It's beautiful..." You were grinning without even realizing it, and you heard Jack chuckle quietly from beside you.
"...Back in the old days, I never really bothered to look at the sky. Didn't have a reason to. But seeing you smile like that... heh, it makes me wanna do the same."
You couldn't tear your eyes away from the view just yet, but you still wanted to respond.
"Look at the sky, or smile?" You clarified.
