THE MARRIAGE CONTRACT

Chapter Twenty

Continuation of Dara's POV

On getting to the office I saw few reporters around the building, so I called Sarah who met me at the lobby.

"What's up with all the reporters around the building?" I asked her immediately I saw her

"Hello to you too my dear friend. Do I have to always remind you that you have to greet people no matter the number of times you meet them in a day?" She asked

"Oga, can you stop being dramatic for a moment?" I asked as I rolled my eyes

"Not until you greet me" she replied and shrugged her shoulders

I sighed and greeted her, "Hi Sarah, how are you?"

"Please were you forced to greet me?" she asked

"Yes, and you are the one who forced me" I replied

"Blah blah blah... Anyway, I'm fine and now to the question you asked, I heard from someone who also heard from someone that the boss have an announcement to make. Please, don't look at me like I'm crazy, you know how rumours work nah"  she said

"Announcement ke? Dad didn't say anything about that when he called this morning. You were there nah"

"Maybe he wanted to suprise you" she replied with a twinkle in her eyes

"With what??? I doubt that" I replied with frustration

I hate suprises and they know that. I brought out my phone and put a call through mum who picked up immediately which is so unlike her, it was as if she has been expecting my call.

"Hi mum"
"Hi honey" we both greeted at the same time

Now I know something is definitely fishy. Mum is always calm and seems to have things under control but not today. She seems nervous

"What's going on mum?" I asked

"Haha..." She laughed and continued,
"What do you mean honey?" she asked back instead of replying. Mum always have an answer for every question you ask her.

"Hmm, what's going on?" I asked myself

"Never mind mum, I was just checking up on you. I love you" I said to her

I waited for some seconds and then I thought she wanted to reply but then, she hanged up.

"Any idea of what the suprise is all about?" Sarah asked

"No" I replied and gave her the full details of my conversation with mum since she couldn't hear what she was saying

"Wow, something is really fishy here. Maybe you should just go back home and call your dad that you're not up for a treat today" she advised

"No, that'll be too childish of me. Besides he probably just want to make amends but I just hope whatever it is, I can handle it" I replied and sighed

I entered into the elevator and pressed the floor dad's office is situated and on getting to it's lobby I greeted Anita, dad's secretary who it's been a while I've seen. She replied with a wink and continued her work. Anita is an hardworking person and she's very jovial too. She's the kind of person you'll fall in love with at the first meeting. I knocked on dad's door and entered without waiting for a response. Had I know, I would have waited for one...

I entered, closed the door and was about to go sit down (since dad is not around) when I realized I wasn't the only one inside the office.

"But wait, there was no one in here when I entered or was there? Maybe it's my mind playing games with me or something"

Different scenarios was playing in my head. My mind was a jumbled mess!

"Are you real?" I asked him

Oh, you're wondering who it might be right? Well you guessed right, it's him.

"Darasimi, I know we haven't known each other for long and though we started on the wrong note but then, I've come to realize that I love you and I want to spend forever with you. Please, be my wife." Then he went on one knee and continued,

"Darasimi Adetoun, will you be my wife? Please say yes!" he begged

Yes, you heard me right Raymond just proposed in my Dad's office. It happened so fast that the next thing I realized is that the ring has been placed on my finger. When it was placed, I don't know and reporters were were taking pictures and was asking him questions about us.

"Us???"
"Who are the us?"
"Wait , did I just get partially engaged to a man I didn't want to marry without even accepting his proposal?"
"Is this some sort of joke or something?"

Dad chose that moment to enter and congratulates Raymond for being a real man. He answered all the questions that were directed at me. A reporter asked why the bride to be is not happy. Thank God, someone finally noticed that something is wrong. But guess what??? In a twinkle of an eye, dad told them that I'm still in a state of shock.

"Awwn, my baby girl is going to leave me soon. I'll miss you so much" dad said and even faked his tears

I don't know how Sarah got me out of the drama and got me home. It was just like a dream I believe I'll wake up to find out it's not real or so I hope...
