"How could your dad do that to you? Knowing fully well that you don't like being the center of attention. Now it's all over the tabloids and every channel that you two are getting married when you didn't even have a chance to reply.

What sort of tight corner is this? I thought everyone has forgotten about the contract and moved on, then in a twinkle of an eye they dumped all these on you. I can't even imagine the trauma you're going through right now" Sarah said as she keeps pacing up and down, before she sat down beside me and asked with concern,

"How are you feeling?"

"I really don't know. It seems as if my senses has gone numb and this is all a dream I'll wake up from in the morning"

"Hmm, I wish it was that easy but honey, this is real" she replied

"I know" I said and burst into tears

"Go ahead, don't be afraid to let them all out. I'm here for you" she keeps comforting me till I couldn't find tears to cry anymore

"Y..u.. You know I.. I thought he wanted to give me a treat like old times but was instead given a suprise marriage proposal that I didn't even get to say Yes or No to. I guess it was all planned out. But one thing I don't understand is when dad becomes so power hungry that he had to sacrifice his child without feeling remorseful." I said with a sad smile

"I understand honey" she said with concern

"No you don't. You're not the one forced into marrying a total stranger, so don't tell me you understand" I shouted at her and regretted it the same minutes those words came out of my mouth

Sarah has been nothing but a good friend over the years, so I don't have to pay her back in such a way. When I looked at her and realized she wasn't angry at me, I felt ashamed.

"I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have put out my anger on you. Please forgive me"

"Darasimi, what are friends turned sisters for? I've told you before that we're in this together and not even you shouting at me can send me away. You hear?" She holds her ear dramatically

"Yes ma" I replied with a smile

"Girl, what do we do? You can't just get married to a total stranger and an unbeliever at that" she said with concern

"Babe, I really don't know. I guess I should have taken your advice and come back home immediately I saw those reporters"

"Yeah, but it has happened already. Don't you know he'll find other means if you didn't show up at the office? That's people for you my dear"

"You're right" I replied

"But one thing I don't understand is why he, I mean your dad, would hide you from the public eyes all this while and all of a sudden he decides to bring you out to the same people he hides you from" she asked with concern

"His interest changed I guess. He knew with the reporters and press around, I would be in a state of shock which is enough time for them to seal my fate" I answered her, then continued

"The most heart wrenching thing not really my family in all these is the fact that he gave his only child away for a piece of contract. But you know the most beautiful thing in all these is the fact that my Father in Heaven will never leave nor forsake me. Real families are known in times of need but I guess the ones I called my family are not really my family and this brings me to the conclusion that, I'm of the lineage of Christ"

"Yes o, soro soke (speak loud). It's so good to have you back honey" she smiled and hugged me

"Let me call mum. I really want to know the role she played in all of these"

"Are you sure you're up for it? You can call her tomorrow you know." She tried to reason with me

I picked up my phone and dialed her number and luckily for me she answered the phone on the second ring

"Darasimi, how are you feeling?" She asked

"To be sincere mum I feel like your husband just sent me to the prison but I'll be fine...

But why mum? Why didn't you warn me when I called you?" I asked

"I'm sorry honey. I just want you to know that we love you and we didn't want you to pass through certain things we passed through. You might not believe it but Raymond is the best candidate for you" she explained

(Candidate???
That word again???
When I'm not writing jamb or employing new staffs in the office)

"Why do you always have to be on dad's side even when we both know that what he's doing is not right?"

"Whose side should she be? How's my favourite girl doing and I hope you like my suprise? I have to go now. I need to take care of your mum" he said and hanged up on me

I could bet it with my life that I heard mum sobbing in the background...
