You never really stood a chance, did you?

Inspiration from something I read on Tumblr. Two spies from two different companies, but they know eachother from somewhere in the past. Virgil acts a bit like Logan in this btw.

Of all the places he'd pick to die... well, this one wasn't the worst it could be. It was a calm autumn day; birds singing in the trees, breeze in his purple locks,  a cliff at his back, and a sword at his throat.

Not a bad place at all, Virgil thought. His own sword lay on the ground several feet away, and he briefly considered lunging towards it. That is, until the person holding said sword pressed it a bit harder against his throat making him gasp slightly. "None of that now," Roman scolded. "Don't think I can't see the gears turning in that pretty little head of yours. Stars, for a spy, you're shockingly easy to read."

"If I'm that easy," Virgil said, hands in the air, "Then why did it take you so long to notice me? I had you pegged as a spy within a day of getting here."

Roman smiled. "I won't underestimate you again. Of course, I won't need to worry about that." he took a step forward, forcing Virgil closer to the edge.

"Now, now," Virgil chuckled nervously, "Let's remain civil. We're both gentlemen here, and I'm sure you don't want to deal with explaining my death to everyone else, would you? It would certainly draw some unwanted attention to yourself that you don't need, or want right now."

Roman shrugged a shoulder. His torn white jacket flapped in the wind. "It's a windy day. The windswept you up, you took a little tumble, I couldn't reach you in time. I'm terribly traumatized, boo hoo."

Virgil blinked. "That's a fairly reasonable alibi, but have you considered... not?"

The other sighed, shaking his head. "I don't understand how you were chosen for a mission like this, with your skills at diplomacy ."

"So you're reconsidering then?"

"Oh, darling. It's been a pleasure. Now, off you go." He pushed forward.

Virgil ducked backwards and slid to the left. In the moment before Roman turned, he'd grabbed his sword and pointed it at the other man.

"How the tables have turned 'my dear'," virgil panted. "Now you're going to slip and fall off this cliff, and I'm going to tearfully tell everyone you're dead."

Roman smirked at him. "Oh, are you now?" he asked casually tapped the blade away from his throat. "You aren't going to touch me."

Virgil pressed closer. "It seems you're not as good an agent as you'd like to think. I'll kill you in a heartbeat."

Roman shook his head, a bold move for a man with a sword at his throat that could be slit any second. "No, you won't. See, I thought ahead. If I die, then everyone will know it was you that did it."

"Lies," Virgil replied, "but thanks for the heads up." he stepped forward.

"You won't bargain?" Roman said. There wasn't a hint of panic in his voice. He'd probably been in situations like this before. Virgil stopped. True, the other man probably had more experience and ignored many pleas for mercy, but he didn't want to kill anyone. Especially not Roman. Of course, Roman saw his hesitation. "I can help you," he pressed. "You don't have everything you need."

"I don't trust a word you say," Virgil said. "I have to kill you, you're too dangerous. It's not personal."

"True," Roman replied, a glimmer in his eyes. "Or, you don't, and we both walk away from this and forget everything."

"As if," Virgil scoffed.

"You don't have to tell your superiors why you didn't kill the other spy if they don't know there is one."

Virgil couldn't believe he was actually considering it, but...

"I don't want to kill you," he said. "So I won't." He stepped back, lowering his sword.

"Oh, my naive little spy," Roman said, and swept Virgil's feet out from under him. In a flash, he was hanging off the cliff, Roman's hand on his shirt as his only tether to the earth.

"You really never stood a chance, did you?"

"Please no Roman come on really! After everything we've been through?!" he yelled grabbing Roman's wrist hopping for this not to be some of his final breaths.

"You even said it yourself Virgil-I'm too dangerous-if I let you run free you'll get me killed or arrested, one way or another-so I'm afraid it has to be this way," he looked at him-so vulnerable in his grasp, "And like I said before, You never really stood a chance, did you?" And it was all over...

Hope you enjoyed! Requests anyone?
